Changing tires on 30' Rexair

Hello all you Rexhall owners.
We are preparing for our fist long distance run down to Rock Point Mexico, and as I was working on the Air Ride lines last night, it dawned on me, I have no idea of how to really jack this beast up if I needed to change a tire. I noticed that if I put the leveling jacks down far enough, it will raise the chassis up enough to take most if not all the chassis weight off the axle.

Would it be safe to do this and then use a medium sized bottle or floor jack to raise the axle enough to pull the tires, or am I looking to damage something this way? May be best to just get a monster 8 ton floor or bottle jack and do it that way.
Thanks for any help with this.

Your on the right track, if you lift the axle the tire goes up into the wheel well and you won't be able remove the tire. If you air down the air bags before running down the leveler you will even be that much more ahead of the process. Now just being able to hog the tire around is where the fun starts.

Thanks, so the concern of messing up the leveling jacks is not so much a concern. I was worried that it could lean enough to bend the jacks.

I've had to change tires several times on our 97 RexAir. I used the levelers to raise the rv as much as possible, used a bottle jack to raise the axle, and IMMEDIATELY put the spare on in case anything collapsed.
You're not supposed to do this, every HWH manual I've read says not to use the leveling system to change tires. But it does work in a pinch.

Interesting, thanks for the information. So to do it right, you would just pretend it was a big truck and lift the axle.

The trouble with jacking the axle only you'll end up with the wheel to high in the wheel well and you can't get the wheel off. I guess the proper way is to jack up the frame high enough to jack the axle in order to get the wheel off, myself I would trust the levelers more than a block of wood at the side of the road.
