Flooring replacement 2002 Rexair 3250BSL
I'm new to the iRV2 forum and this is my first post! I apologize if there is already a thread on this but I searched and couldn't find one. I have a 2002 Rexhall 3250BSL. It has two large slides. One in the living room and the other in the bedroom. Anyway, we would like to remove the carpet and replace it with something other than carpet. We are leaning towards Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT). I appreciate any input from anyone regarding issues and considerations I need to take into account. I'm considering tackling all or part of the project myself. I'm concerned about what to do in the area of the slides, etc. I appreciate your input!

I replaced my carpet in my 3550BSL with vinyl plank flooring. I cut the carpet as far back under the slides a possible and butted the vinyl up against the carpet left behind.
It came out fabulous. I do have a problem with the living room slide scratching the vinyl though. There is no problem with the bedroom. I think I will have to eventually place carpet where the living room slide comes in.
Here are a couple of pictures

I looked into doing this for our 36.5 ft Rexhall and was quoted $6000 using LVT. This was an independent contractor so his price may have been based on many factors (such as needing cash for a trip with his kids that was coming up) but he indicated that the big labor really came because of the need to remove the slide.
We decided to put it off, but after seeing the pictures in this thread--wow, I would really like to do it! Keep us posted as to how you do with this and what it costs!

Do you or anyone else know if our slides have rollers under them or do they have a skid rail or something like that? I tried to look under the slide but couldn't see anything.

Teflon skid pads the full length of the slide.

Looks like if I replace my carpet with vinyl that the skids under the slide could scratch the vinyl. Anyone have any ideas?

For some reason the skids on the bedroom slide don’t seem to touch the vinyl. Now the living room is a different story. I first noticed light marring on the vinyl. I was pretty anal about making sure the floor was clean before bringing in the slides but one time I figured it would be OK. It only takes one time. Apparently there were a couple of small pebbles under the slide and now the floor has some pretty significant scratches in it. The planks are not hard to replace though and I do have spares.
I suppose you could lift the slide enough to attach a strip of carpet under the skids so the slide will ride on the carpet instead of the Teflon. You would still have to make sure the floor is real clean before bringing in the slide. Another alternative is to leave carpet on the floor where the slide comes in.

Newmar sells a pad to place on the floor so that the slide can glide over it. One side is sticky, not overly gooey, but enough it does not slide, the other is slippery so the pad stays in one place while the slide glides passes over.

Yeah but, I think those are made to go under rollers. I don’t think they will cover the whole length of the slide as the Teflon skid pads do.

That is correct, however they do raise the slide about 1/8" above the floor, so if you place one at each end, unless the slide sags in the center you should be alright. Maybe place one more in the center?

2003 Aerbus 3550BSL: on ours we pulled the nasty old carpet & padding up and installed Shaw VPF from Lowes. We bought the product and had a flooring contractor install it. The final result looks like the pics above.
The original flooring was some kind of vinyl glued to OSB around the kitchen area and padded carpeting in the LR, DR, and bedroom. In hindsight, we should have left the original vinyl flooring in place as the adhesive they used was VERY strong and durable.
The new flooring "floats" on the sub-floor, so it's not glued, staples, or nailed anywhere. Looks terrific, makes a whole lot more sense for a product used in the woods, and cleans up easily.
The above posts concerning the slides though are spot on: those HWH hydraulics will drag anything jammed between the floor surface and the bottom of the slide, so cleaning the floor before pulling in the slides is a must.
We decided to let the pros do the install because, well you know... "Happy Wife..."
And there were a lot of little trim challenges for which he found solutions based on his years of experience, so it was worth it. All told, about $1500. invested.

That looks awesome. I have a 2001 3250. I am planning on getting rid of the bathroom carpet and replacing the kitchen flooring. Now you have me thinking of going bigger...
