HELP!!! Purchased 1990 22' Rexhall Vision

There are several issues we are trying to solve. For starters:

1. Gas fuel gauge is not working. Could it be a burnt fuse? or possibly problem in gas tank?

2. Where is the fuse box?

3. Dash is severely damaged. There is a large section cut out in the middle next to the radio. Is it possible to get another dash? or have one custom made?

4. Control panel for front air control is broken. Where does one look for replacement parts?

Thanks for any advice given.

Gas gauge could be a fuse, could be damaged wiring. although if there is other damage to your dash, I'd look through all the wires there first to see if any are damaged.

Fuse box... depends on the chassis although a place to start is somewhere near the steering column, on firewall, side, or under dash.

Another dash, only if you can find one in a wrecking yard. Otherwise, they are pretty much "custom" to the RV. You could probably make a replacement or repair yours.

Control panel for the front air... *assuming* you mean heater/defrost and AC if yours has it. I couldn't find one for mine. I had to fix mine then get creative with mounts so it wouldn't move and wouldn't break again. The car that mine would have come out of, it would have mounted to the front of the dash frame, with decorative plastic over it, so the force of pushing the buttons or moving the heat control would have been absorbed by the dash, mounted in our RVs, all the force ends up on the 2 screws which easily break off. Of course yours could be different, I don't know if they "match" the chassis manufacture and year or not. Its been a while since I worked on mine.

Not to say I'm not working on mine, just not the dash. Other little things though...

Thank you for your advice. We will look into everything you said. Here is a picture of the dash/control panel. (not sure how to post a photo, hopefully it posts this time)

Wow.
What a hack job.

I'm trying to remember our heater/def controls. I think they are similar to a Chrysler of about the same vintage as our RV (1989). RV Manufacturers, especially of older RVs, tended to use whatever parts they could get in bulk. So it is possible to have a Chevy Chassis, with Ford, Dodge, etc. parts because it was cheaper to buy parts than create their own.

Your dash might be easy to fix, or rather rebuild the panel. It looks flat.
If you have the tools, I'd carefully dismantle the dash, take the wood panel out and use it for a template and make a new one.
Ours is plastic and has "style".... a lot of bends and angles. So I have had to pretty much leave it alone.

Your cup holder looks like someone made one to match the dash, all of the ones I have seen have been oak, with an ashtray between the cup holders.

Most of the Rexhalls I have heard of, there might be a screw at the bottom of the dash both sides and a piano hinge along the top allowing you to hinge the dash upwards, easier to get to wiring and such. Not as familiar with the Vision, but would *assume* that Rexhalls are mostly all the same. If it does hinge upwards, it might give you a better look at what you are dealing with and how to fix it.
Looks small for a TV... what was in there?

Capacity of gas tank for 1990 Rexhall Vision 22'???

Thanks again for your reply.

A homemade box with shelves to hold cassette tapes was in the hole in the dashboard. It just had to go.

The fuel tank gauge isn't working so we are dropping the tank to replace the necessary part (not sure what it is called). We need to know the size/capacity of the fuel tank. I have searched online but have yet to find the answer. It has been suggested that it is 35 gallons.

Any ideas? or suggestion on how to get this info?

You might be able to find out the size of the tank by researching the chassis to see what was typically offered that year for that chassis. There is always a possibility that someone replaced it with a larger tank or that Rexhall put in a larger tank. It looks like yours is on a Ford Chassis (that appears to be a ford logo on the steering wheel in the picture)

I'll see if I can find anything later today or over the weekend. I haven't had a lot of time for anything but work this week, trying to get caught up and wrap up a lot of open projects from the summer rush.
