Water pump inop

Hello all. Posted in new members forum, not sure when it will appear. So will repeat:

New member, new owner.
Retired, avid fisherman residing in NW Washington.

New owner of a 2001 Rexhall American Clipper, mod# C-315, with a slideout, leveling jacks, air suspension, genset, solar panel and two roof ACs. It has 95,000 miles, is on a Ford chassis, and is powered by a 460 v10.

The water pump doesn't come on, seems like 12VDC is getting lost on its way to the pump. The user manual (or was it installation manual?) is not a lot of help.

I'd like to access the (only one I can find) water pump switch in the monitor panel over the stove.

Hoping to hear from someone who has been down this road already. Any advice, how-tos,warnings, etc will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks fer taking the time to read and, hopefully reply.

Take care

If you're certain you're not getting 12VDC at the pump (a good pump) ...

1. Check circuit protection (fuse panel or reset switch on the pump)
2. The pump is OFF. Check for other water pump switches inside the coach or in the basement (water bay or near the pump)
3. Look for other pump switches and try each one individually. The one you're using above the stove may be bad
4. Are other 12VDC devices working?

Did you purchase from a dealer or private seller? If the latter, call the previous owner for help.

PS: I carry a spare pump and stairs motor, but this does not appear to be a bad pump

Good luck

Checked all the fuses in the power panel that is located beneath the refrigerator. Dont know if there are any other fuses(?). None of the 9 fuses are labeled as supplying the water pump.

Saw one diagram showing a sw. for the water pump in the bathroom but was unable to locate one. Only sw. I could find is the one in the monitor panel above the stove. Would like to test it but unsure of the least destructive method to access it.

All other 12VDC devices are working.

We purchased the RV from a fellow who had bought it 3 mo.s earlier for a new job and when the job didnt materialize he no longer needed it. I did contact him and he reiterated that as far as he knew everything worked. He did contact the original owners and the concurred.

Thank you again for the help

Take care

p.s. What model Rexhall are you piloting?

Generally speaking, if the switch/panel is not screwed in, it's likely held in place w/compression clips. Firmly grasp either side and pull, but proceed at your own risk as I cannot say exactly how yours is held in place.

If you must pry, recommend plastic pry tools vs metal (screwdriver, etc.) which could cause a short if you touch something you shouldn't.

Good luck

Thank you

Appreciate ya!

Just the info I was looking for. Switch works great wonder if the green water pump light, next to the sw, turning on (and off) indicates the same thing.

I was not the person who checked voltage at the pump...and apparently what they measured was LOW voltage vice no voltage.

I measured a Lil less than 12.5 volts going into the pump. Pump looks brand new...

voltage is low, but seems like I would hear something from the pump. Wondering if the pressure sw is bad.

Found the same pump for $70-$90, the repair kit is priced at $125-$195?!! What's the sense of repairing it yerself if a new pump is less than half the price of a repair kit? I must be missing something.

Thanks again truly appreciated

Take care,
Roger

If you're getting 12VDC (minimum) at the pump the switch is good. Just because the pump looks new doesn't mean it is or that it works (you wont hear anything if the pump is dead). Confirm its wired correctly (12 VDC and ground) or that there isn't a reset switch at the pump. If it all looks good you will need to pull it and connect it directly to a 12-volt battery. That will verify if its working (or not).

If you do have to get a new pump try to find the same one that is in there so it has the same inlet and outlet piping diameters and the same gallons per minute (gpm) rating. Getting a higher-rated pump may exceed your plumbing system pressure limit and cause a rupture/leak. You also need to ensure the tubing into and out of the pump fits snug and clamps are well set or you will suck air into the system and get dismal performance.

Good luck
