RV Name Sandpiper
Year 2022
Make Forest River Sandpiper
Model 388BHRD
Length 44
2022 Forest River Sandpiper 388BHRD
Basic Info New floorplan from Forest River for 2022 that we fell in love with. Similar to the 384QBOK, it has an 8'x8' bunkroom in the back with opposing slides that open up to a huge room that's perfect for the kids to play and for me to use as a mobile office during the day. Unique to the BHRD, though, is that the bunkroom is raised up and features a giant passthrough motorhome-style basement underneath with a 4'x8' rear slide out cargo tray.
Exterior
None (yet)

Interior
* Added flip-up countertop extension to the island. Counter space is the one drawback we have with the floor plan, but we make do and the additional space solves the problem for us.

Customizations
* Added hardwired Surge Guard 50A surge protector in-line with shore power
* Upgraded solar charger to Victron SmartSolar 150/35
* Added Victron SmartShunt battery monitor
* Added Victron Cerbo GX monitoring controller

Planned:
* Replace charger with a Victron MultiPlus II 2x120 24v (which it is released later this year)
* Upgrade battery bank to 24V LiPo
* Add DC-DC charger to charge from truck alternator while traveling

Renovations and Repairs
* From the factory the solar panel wasn't working. Traced the issue to a disconnected wire in the ceiling in the bedroom. Had to cut a hole in the ceiling to repair it, but left a convenient access panel to get at the roof drop in the future.
* Likely related to the solar issue, the single AGM battery from the factory was completely shot and wouldn't hold a charge. Likely it was allowed to completely drain multiple times since the solar wouldn't keep it topped off while sitting outside. Replaced with two Renogy 200Ah AGM deep cycle batteries (for now)
* Drawer cabinetry in the bunkroom slide were horribly crooked from the factory and fell apart on our third trip. Rebuilt the cabinets and added more robust framing to the drawer slides to hold them square.

Tow Vehicle
2021 GMC Sierra 3500 Dually, L5P Duramax w/ 10sp Allison transmission.
* Added Airlift 7500Lb air ride suspension

Planned:
* Upgrade to Titan 60Gal diesel tank
