All repairs were handled via Scotty's Camper Sales in New Iberia, Louisiana, which kept us safely on the road as full-timers for 10 years.
Scotty's (a family company, now headed by Walter Scott) sold us our bus at a very reasonable price and took care of us so well that we kept coming back to Louisiana every year for service.
About 8 years in, we added a braking system for the tow vehicle, professionally installed in both the RV and the Jeep, that allowed the RV brakes to activate the Jeep brakes. This was done in Texas by the company that had just created the system. M&G ENGINEERING BRAKE SYSTEMS "a powerful and patented supplemental brake system that promotes safety and brings peace of mind to today's recreational vehicle drivers who tow a vehicle behind their RV. We also install Tow Bars, Base plates, and wire vehicles for towing at the Factory in Athens, TX." Worked perfectly!
We went to Red Bay several times: We lived in the RV, so replaced the couch and the drivers and passenger chairs and the windshield.
We replaced the front curtains.
Naturally, we replaced the bedspread: Best idea was a two comforters --- one for the bed and the other to cover a foam-insulating-panel, fitted to create a plush headboard for the entire wall area behind the bed (no window, of course) --- made the room seem bigger, much more plush, and much quieter.
Tow Vehicle
Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited offered 4-wheel drive and towable 4-down
Easy to hook up to RV, via metal "arms" that folded to stay attached to the RV.
Towing was simple because --- via the Jeep's own transmission system --- the Jeep became towable 4-down, with no record of miles traveled on the odometer.
Favorite Camping Destinations
Louisiana, Lafayette & Cajun country: Great food, friendly people, good times! We often wintered (late-October to mid-March at Bayou Wilderness RV Resort in Carencro (Lafayette). There's a whole lot to explore and do around the area.
Montana (Missoula) We stayed weeks at Jim & Mary's RV Park, taking our jeep to drive out and explore the area. Moving the RV up to Big Fork, etc.
Maine (Trenton): Timberland Acres RV Park made a great base to use to explore coastal Maine, including stunningly beautiful Acadia National Park. From here, driving inland to Bangor was easy, as was driving the Jeep north to Canada and FDR's family home.
