Big Exclamation Point - What does it mean?

I am routing in California and Oregon. On a few of the roads, there is a big exclamation point on the road. It is not a Fuel marker and I can't find anything that explains that symbol. Is the road impassable at that point? What does it mean? Why doesn't Trip Wizard reroute around the obstacle?

Presumably that exclamation point is accompanied by a yellow route. This means that something in your route violates one of the criteria you set in Trip Preferences, under the Routing and Driving tab. These include; Avoid Tolls, Avoid Highways, Avoid Ferries, Avoid All Tunnels, Avoid Unpaved Roads.

It means that part of the segment it lies on is unsuitable for some RV travel. If you've "filtered" by your weight, height, length, etc, and a bit (but not all) of the route is "out of bounds" (like a low or restricted weight bridge, narrow lanes, hairpins, restricted residential roads, bad rr crossing), then the mark appears.

If you can't get an explanation of the restriction, one way to figure out what the flag is for is to remove your filters one at a time until the mark goes away.

I've found that on occasion, there is time period data in the RVTW database identifying an issue on the routes with exclamation points that has occurred that may not allow you to continue on that route without detour, or possibly not at all. Otherwise, the route normally would not be an issue for RV travel. I experienced this last summer on a trip where we were planning on traveling thru NE Nebraska heading East. Two separate roads were flagged with an explanation point that I knew should not be an issue for RV travel. I decided to check the Nebraska DOT website and found that on both routes in question, bridges over the Niobrara River had been damaged in last year's massive spring floods and were impassable, necessitating a total reroute on that segment of the trip. So, while all of the previous responses may be correct, if you find that nothing really makes sense for having an issue on that section of your route, dig into local gov't and DOT websites to see if anything unusual is going on that might explain why it's highlighted.

Thanks Mike for posting your experience. I thought the explanation pt was for an avoidance that is not honored.

I have driven through an explanation pt without issue before but will pay more attention now.

Doh!!! Don't you just love auto-correct. Obviously it wasn't an Explanation Point, as there was no explanation. But I think you got the gist of my message. Happy travels.

I had an explanation mark on route 9 from Canadian border to Bangor, ME. I removed unpaved road filter and it went away. Roadwork I guess.

I found a partial answer in the on line doc under Map Pin Icon Key: “Route warning. Please check the Trip drawer for an explaination. It could be due to a dirt road, no RV route found, or another trip avoidance that is violated”

So what is a Trip drawer? I’m getting that icon on two interstate highways and I can’t believe they are obstructed in any way.

It doesn't take much for that symbol to show up. It can just be that the short drive into a campground is not paved.

With your trip open there is a section of the window (I call it a "pane") on the left side of the screen, that shows each stop on your trip. That is the Trip Drawer...

I have a trip with the yellow warning. On the map, the icon shows on the last leg of the trip. Expanding that leg on the map, I found two unpaved road symbols near my destination, which is at the end of 1/2 mile of dirt road. While RVTW would usually route around such restricted roads, in this case it is unavoidable. Therefore the warnings.
