I figured it out on a 1090.
Instead of repeating a very long and involved post, here is the link.

You will find your relationship with RVTW much better if you use RVTW for what it is designed to do. It's a planning tool NOT a navigation tool.

Plan your trip and stops on RVTW and let your GPS navigate to those stops.

Now with that being said and if you want to learn Garmins' BaseCamp, I download all my RVTW legs to BaseCamp, then download just the stops to my Garmin GPS. That way each travel day I just open "Favorites" on my GPS, select that days destination and let the GPS do the routing.

I guess that I simply don’t see the need to pay for RVTW to plan a trip since Google Maps is free.
If I decide to go to a COE campground, I’m going to look it up on Google, look at pictures, rates, etc.
I’ll then look at the map and decide how to create my route.
Here’s where RVTW is handy because it knows my RV and I can visualize the route.
I’ve learned in the past from my motorcycle Garmins that what Garmin decides is the best route is often not the best route at all.

Ok, you will download a GPX file to your computer but don’t open it. Why not I ask. Because first you have to download Garmin Basecamp to your computer. Oh? Yeah and you will also get Garmin Express downloaded but don’t have that running when you try to transfer your trip from your computer files to Basecamp to your GPS.

The GPS will hold 30 trips. I created a 110 day trip with 50 stops. Each day when I depart to arrival was considered 1 trip. Needless to say when I tapped send the entire file it went nope. So I highlighted the first 20 “trips” and sent the highlighted trips to my GPS. I opened “saved trips” on my GPS and there they were not in numerical order.

I retried the whole circus numerous times. Even more madding were the little messages on my computer screen like “can’t communicate with GPS 1090” “insufficient power” “there was a problem reading GPX files”. I actually called Garmin Tech Support and talked for 40 minutes to no avail.

This is what I now do. My trips are still planned with RV Trip Wizard. I don’t bother to download the trip to my GPS. I enter the address for my destination in my GPS press “GO” and we are off.

Disclaimer: I’m not interested in learning how to use tech stuff or should I say reading Manual’s in depth especially now that they are all online. I loose interest real fast!
I had the same frustration and do the same thing. I will print out the itinerary at home so I have information in hand when I use the Garmin. Not a big deal when you do it this way.

I have done that already many times and find that Garmin 890 (which is the same except for size ) will change the route if your not careful and will miss way points you add. So you have to watch it when using your method. It does work for the most part though.

I was thinking of doing the same thing except I can't find a way to get Google maps to show just truck or RV routes. I would then have to hope my 890 can reroute around low bridges and such that google doesn't seem to care about. This is why I have not used Google yet. If there is a way to get Google to route by way of trucker or RV I'd like to know that one. It would be nice.

That has worked for me well so far and until I find a better way that is what I will continue to do. I do add in my way point address also, such as fuel stops and rest areas.

Using RVTW as a planning tool and my GPS as a navigation tool is what I do also. My Garmin GPS is optimized for RV traveling and I've put the RV weight and height into my GPS. I believe the GPS will do as good and probably a better job of keeping me safe avoiding low overpasses and weight restricted bridges as RVTW. However I've found no software or program better at planning RV trips than RVTW.

For those of you frustrated that you can't get your GPS to follow the trip you created in RVTW, just know that your GPS optimized for RV travel with parameters you put in it such as height and weight is not designed to follow a downloaded trip from another source. If it did then it would not adhere to the parameters you put in it, so what would be the purpose of a GPS optimized for RV travel if it did? One exception to this rule is using Garmin's BaseCamp and creating alert turn points before downloading to your Garmin GPS.

If you do not want to follow the route your GPS calculated most Garmin GPS allow you to modify the route on the fly. However doing so may not keep you on RV safe roads.
With all that being said, it's prudent to check any route your GPS or RVTW calculates against a truckers atlas or other information source.

I have also added shortcuts to my GPS home screen with the destination addresses.

I am the type that would rather enter each stop at the beginning of my trip. At least on my Garmin, I can create a Trip within the Trip Planner on the unit. List each of my stops and it will map the trip. Save the Trip. Next time you open the Saved Trip it will ask you for your Next Destination. Just select your next Destination then click on Go, and it will map it from your current location. Just another option. Thank goodness I have a co-pilot who likes to read a map and I have Garmin. I am terrible with directions.

Garmin. It shouldn't be this hard to enter a custom road route into a Garmin which is a very popular navigation device and i would say a necessity when you get into a non-cellular area. Garmin Basecamp is a waste of time so don't even bother. The tech people from trip wizard should talk to the Garmin folks and figure out a way to exchange trip route directly and seamlessly into a Garmin without having to jump through hoops. The enhancement would not only be a great improvement but also much appreciated.

Amen!!!
