Drag Route is a drag…

When I use “drag route” to change my route, the new waypoint does not snap to road like in the tutorial video. It will stay wherever it gets dropped, like 100 yds off the pavement with warnings of “route includes unpaved roads”. If I zoom way in I can place the new waypoint exactly on the hwy, but that is time consuming. Tried it on iPad & laptop with same result. Tutorial shows this move snapping new route to roads. Am I missing something?

To my knowledge, the Drag has never snapped to a given type of road. While the video could be interpreted that way, the map was zoomed out enough that you actually would not be able to tell that it did not. Remember that RVTW is used to plan travel across a multitude of road types. You were expecting that it would snap to the interstate via some preprogrammed logic, but what if the user does not want to travel the interstates. That preprogramming would be counterproductive, and maddening. In reality, aside from the Avoidances you choose, RVTW has no way to know what your road preferences are for any given section of trip, even more so for a Drag. So it pretty much plops the Drag at the specific point that you drop it. RVTW is just doing what you tell it to do. Bottom line is, when you drag, verify that it's really where you want it to be. Safe travels.

Thanks Mike

I’m new to RVTW and learning. I use GaiaGPS for off-road trip planning and it has an option to “snap to roads” that can be turned on or off, so that’s what I expected. A video tutorial looked like that’s how TW worked. Thanks for clarifying. It is a great tool and I’ll get it figured out.

For sure, there's a bit of a learning curve. But it's a quick one. Have fun with it.

I tend to agree with you on the drag being a drag. It is not just that it doesn't know that you want to take the interstate or not, once you drag it to the interstate it still takes little side roads off the interstate and back on. You have 20 way points listed just trying to get it back in line.

Can you attach a picture of what you are experiencing?
