Exporting trip to Garmin RV
Hello,
I prefer using TW for planning, it's much easier to make changes and dial my route in. But my wife prefers using the Garmin for guidance vs an iPad.
Can I export a route from TW to the Garmin, and if so, does anyone know of a tutorial online showing how?
Thanks for any help.

You will need to export the gpx file to Garmin Basecamp on a PC first. There are several Youtube tutorials on how to do this. The you can connect your GPS to the PC and export from the PC to the GPS unit. There's a bit of a learning curve with Basecamp but not too bad. The videos will help along with a little practice, trial and error.

I copied this a couple yrs ago - haven't used it yet.
Importing RV Trip Wizard Trip onto Garmin RV 890. How I finally got it to work. (Note: I am using a laptop with Windows operating system.)
* Created Trip in RV Trip Wizard
* Click on Trip (lower left corner of screen)
* Click on Trip Tools (the wrench)
* Click on Export Trip, then GPS Export
* Click on Download.GPX (this is the file type Garmin uses)
You have zero control where it gets saved on your computer. Good thing is it always saves to the same place. On my laptop it's easy to find in the Downloads folder.
* Plug Garmin into laptop/desktop via a USB Port.
* On laptop/desktop, go to File Explorer (on my laptop it's on the toolbar at the bottom of my screen and looks like a file folder)
* Open Downloads folder
* Click on file and drag to RV890/Internal Storage/Garmin/GPX
* On Garmin unit, go to Trip Planner
* Saved Trips
* Scroll down to Imported Trips
(Garmin numbers and renames imported files)
* Open imported Trip
* Congratulations!!
If you want to rename the imported Trip to something you prefer:
* Open Trip
* Click on the wrench
* Scroll down and select Rename Trip.
* Change name and save.

Thanks for the information. I will try both methods to see what happens. Both sound pretty straight-forward, but computers often seem to get a mind of their own with me.

The method I use: Plan the trip using RVLIFE Trip Wizard, and print out the itinerary. The night before I manually input the next day's destination into the Garmin, and reconcile the Garmin route with the TW route. Simple, and almost fool-proof!

Similar to BT3927, I export a *.gps file from TW and save it on my laptop. I then use Garmin's Basecamp and import the GPS file. While in BaseCamp, I will tweak the route and generally delete the intermediate routing points that TW includes in the export file. When I have the final route that I like, I'll transfer the route to my GPS. Sometimes, I break the trip into a set of individual one day drives and run them sequentially.

Upload via Garmin RV Bluetooth
Rather than connecting my PC I upload via my phone using Bluetooth. You need to have the Garmin Drive App on your phone and able to Bluetooth pair your phone with the Garmin RV GPS.
1) Following other posts export your .gpx file to your PC
2) Open Windows explorer and Bluetooth file transfer the .gpx file to your phone.
3) On your phone open the .gpx file with a phone file explorer App. I have an association for .gpx files to open the file in the Garmin Drive App.
4) Press the send button in the App. It sends the waypoints and location data to the gps.
That's it!

This method takes less time than reading any of the electronic transfer schemes previously posted.
Using the planned trip, enter the start, intermediate, and end points manually into the Garmin. Go. Let the Garmin figure out the route. That’s what it’s designed for.

Following is a YouTube video that addresses the process above ( ) I tried it (the download to the Garmin's GPX File Folder on my Garmin RV770) and it worked, and it showed on my Trip Planner app. Haven't actually tried it on a trip yet, though.
