GPS vehicle weight

I find when traveling with my coach GPS , my programmed weight of vehicle routes me as if I知 a commercial vehicle. Leading me to out of the way routes because of weight restrictions. Has anyone ever changed programmed weight on their GPS to avoid this?

Are you are using one of the newer Garmin RV or Trucker GPS devices?

These devices use truck routing rules. It only uses local roads for the "first mile" and the "last mile". It vigorously avoids city streets, town roads, county roads, and even many state highways.

You can defeat this routing by changing the profile to "car" mode. You will loose the weight, height, and other RV warning and routing functions.

I wish you good luck and happy trails ahead!

Just curious... What exactly is your GCWR? And do you think you are being routed based specifically on that number or on a "Class" of vehicle that might include that number?

54000 plus. Many roads like the GSP Garden State Pkwy have a max of 10k lbs. I think my GPS keeps me off that just for weight not height. The 10k limit on the GSP is to make sure no commercial trucks use it. I’m not commercial and I know the road can handle the weight.

My only comment then would be, for roads you don't know, follow the GPS routing recommendations, and on a daily basis, have a look at a map to see where the GPS is taking you. No GPS is foolproof. As for the GSP, that indeed is a unique highway that you do know. Maybe you can drive it, I don't know. I'd call them to see. But just because you know it's a unique situation shouldn't make you distrust your GPS recommendations for elsewhere. Especially as big and heavy as you are.
