I initially planned our current trip as one segment and its good to start that way. But we often change the plan, so have copied the trip to a new name and eraced the preivous stops and the stops after a certain point and are just working on a two week segment. It makes it much easier to try some different options to see how they might work out.

I'm not a Trip Wizard user - but choose instead to use a combination of GoogleMaps, AllStays, Google Search, RV Park Reviews along with other applications to plan our trips. As my trip plans come together - I capture and organize all the elements of the trip in Microsoft One Note.

I have planned trips in segments … as well as end to end - depending on the nature and duration of the trip. I tend to plan shorter trips with an end-to-end plan. Longer trips such as our winter trips (which usually includes a long drive to somewhere warm … a significant length stay (weeks/months) - often with side trips in during the "stay" … followed by a long drive back to Michigan) get planned in segments. Segments are typically the "Trip Out", "Side Trip A", "Side Trip B", etc. and finally the "Trip Back".

My trip planning process is pretty detailed … and is used to feed our budgeting process. We finished up our 2019 Winter trip (a 4+ month trip that took us out to Arizona, Texas and back to Michigan) a week or so ago - and came in $91 over budget for all travel expenses (fuel for the coach, fuel for the Jeep, campground fees, hotel costs (associated with a couple of side trips), laundry expenses, activities (fees associated with things we chose to do such as a dolphin watching tour in Corpus Christi, entrance fees to exhibits, museums, etc.).

RVTW will simply draw a circle around the stop you have highlighted in the stop column. It could be first, last or any stop in between. Know that the circle is as the crow flies.

If you download a trip from RVTW into your Garmin GPS, your GPS will simply create a route from your origination to your destination using the parameters and avoidance's set in your GPS completely ignoring the route you created in RVTW. So it does no good downloading a route created in any mapping program including RVTW (regardless of the instructions in RVTW). Your GPS will create it's own route.
Mapping programs use similar algorithms to create routes, so many times the route you create in RVTW will be the same as shown on your GPS. But you must compare your GPS displayed route if you want to be sure. If you use the drag feature of RVTW it will not carry over to your GPS.
There are ways around this that are beyond the scope of this topic.

If you have doubts about the underlined sentence above I suggest you call Garmin.

Snip.

RVTW pretty much does all this in one application including budgeting and fuel stops with reserves along with auto connecting to RV Park Reviews. It will display in satellite or map view.

I do a mixture of both. I plan the destination times/dates for my final stop, then break it down into segments leaving ample time for detours. IOW if I want to be somewhere by Friday, I leave a couple days early and take my time at each stop. I find the trip much more enjoyable that way. Plus, it allows me to explore the surrounding areas of any given stop. Our ultimate plan is to stay at Wallymarts on the way to and from. This way I don't have to concern myself with campgrounds, hooking and unhooking my toad etc.

Me too. On a cross country trip this works much better for me. I break the trip down into Day 1,2,3 etc.

Based in the suggestion here I just broke my long 5 month RVTW trip into 3 shorter segments. It now loads in a fraction of the time and is easier to manage. I like it this way.

I always load my GPS one day at a time, usually the night before the day of driving which gives me plenty of time to review the route and make changes or adjustments and research route particulars or fuel stops.
