RV friendly routing makes weird detours

I too had an "interesting" alternative route. The RV safe route from Rocks Springs, WY is 626.3miles, and 11 hours 35 minutes. The alternative automobile route is 330.4 miles 4 hours 43 minutes.


The alternative route is I-80 all the way, so what/why is this route not RV safe?


I drove the alternative route and had no issues at all other than high winds across the salt flats west of Salt Lake City. Both routes too me that way, so the safety was not weather related.

I've had some of the same issues with the phone app deviating significantly from the PC web based app. I don't use the phone (iphone) app anymore. It's just too unreliable. I initially set the route in Trip Wizard on the PC then compare it to the Garmin 890 GPS route. I also use Google satellite views and street views to confirm and alter as necessary. I never depend solely on what either GPS tells me. I also have a truckers atlas as backup.

If you choose Match My Route Exactly with the phone, it will follow your planned Trip Wizard trip just fine. I'm not brave enough to follow any GPS without research and vetting.
