RV LIFE Trip Wizard 101
This area of the forum is for questions and discussions about RV Trip Wizard. RV Trip Wizard is an online trip planner that facilitates traveling and camping in the US and Canada. There is an annual fee to use the trip planner. The planner helps plan routes, displays clearance alerts (bridges, etc) and makes finding parks along your route simple. You can export trip plans to your on board GPS, send them to your mobile device via Google maps for turn by turn nav or print turn by turn instructions.
The Trip Wizard planner has recently been updated with more updates in the works. Please use this section of the forum to ask questions and post comments and tips for others. If you have questions about how the Trip Planner works, you can try out a free demo from the Trip Wizard home page or watch any of several how videos.

How to change the starting date of your trip.
You can change the starting date for your trip by selecting the starting point (the very first entry) in the Trip menu on the left side of the screen. When you click or hover on that starting point, a small menu will show up just to the right of that entry. Click the small pencil icon, and you'll be able to edit the start date.

Need help understanding the Driving Radius rings?
This video will help you:
There are 2 options for the Driving Radius. Classic Radius and Advanced Radius.
Classic Radius Circles are a straight line distance from your stop, think of it "as the crow flies".
Advanced Radius is a driving radius that uses actual road data to show you a variable radius that is more accurate.
Driving Radius Documentation
Both options are found under Default Settings and Trip Settings.

This video explains the fuel warning functionality.
The Default Fuel Warnings setting now has three options:
None, One, & Multiple.
This means you can have the fuel warnings turned off (None), show only one at a time (One) or show every fuel warning at once (Multiple).

How to change the order of the stops in the Trip Menu:
In the Trip bar on the left, each stop will have 6 pairs of small gray dots stacked vertically. It kind of looks like braille or washboard. When you hover your mouse on these sections, the cursor will change to a double arrow separated with a line. At this point, press and hold the mouse and move the stop either up or down to reorder.

Can RV Trip Wizard be used offline?
Currently RV Trip Wizard does require an internet connection to actively plan trips or make changes. If you have already planned your route, those trips can be printed, sent to a Rand McNally GPS, or sent to Google maps where they can be viewed on a phone.
You can also access the route through the new RV Life GPS & Campgrounds mobile app. Access to your RV Trip Wizard Trips and offline access does require a subscription. Be sure to login with your RV Trip Wizard credentials to receive a discounted price.
You can learn more about the app here: https://www.rvlife.com/app

At times you need to clear the Chrome browser cache.
If Chrome is misbehaving, you can do a deep refresh of the page by pressing CTRL + F5.
You may need to clear Chrome's cache manually. You can do this by clicking the three vertical dots in the upper right-hand corner, then choose Settings. Scroll to the bottom and choose Advanced, then click on "Clear browsing data". See that only the Cached images and files is checked...uncheck any other choices as we don't really want to clear any other items at this time. You should also see that the Time Range setting is set for "All time". Now click the Clear Data button. Afterwards, close and re-open Chrome and see if there is any improvement.

Need to report a problem or issue you are having?
When reporting an issue be sure and tell the support team which device you are using? (Laptop, tablet, iPhone, etc.) as well as which web browser you are using. If possible, always try using an alternative browser? The three main browsers you are likely to see in Windows 10 are Chrome, Firefox, and Windows Edge. (Note that Internet Explorer is out of date, no longer supported by Microsoft, and should not be used).
Mac's and IOS devices will usually have Safari, but may also have Chrome and Firefox. Android devices would likely have Chrome or Firefox.
You can contact the Help Desk by clicking your name in the upper right-hand corner of RV Trip Wizard, then clicking Help. Click on the Contact Us tab, enter your information, and send your message.

Exporting an RV Trip Wizard trip to the Rand McNally GPS is usually pretty straight forward, using the steps below.
1) Export your trip as a CSV file (Send to GPS from the Trip menu wrench icon).
2) Go to your File Explorer (My Computer or just Computer) and find your CSV file. The default location should be your Downloads folder.
3) Right click the file and choose Copy.
4) Locate your Rand McNally device in the File Explorer / My Computer.
5) Open up the device by double-clicking.
6) Locate the RM folder and double-click to open.
7) Locate the ImportTrip folder. If for some reason there is not a folder with this name, create it. There is no space in the folder name, just "ImportTrip".
8) Open this folder by double-clicking.
9) Right click into the empty folder area and choose Paste, your CSV file should now be in the RM\ImportTrip folder.
10) Now go back and highlight Rand McNally device in File Explorer / My Computer and right click and choose EJECT.
11) Disconnect when you see the message that says it's safe to do so.
12) Your Rand McNally GPS will restart, if not, power it off and back on again.
13) You will see a multi-stop trip OR a custom POI ready for import (depends on version).
14)) Say yes or follow instructions for importing.

Will RV Trip Wizard make reservations or book for you?
No.
Although RV Trip Wizard provides a great deal of information about every campground you add to your trip, it does not contact that campground and make reservations for you. You must still do this on your own, via the phone number or website provided.

Deleting a waypoint.
When dragging a route, waypoints are created. You can delete individual waypoints. In the Trip menu on the left where each waypoint is listed, you can click the tiny trash can icon located just to the right of the waypoint name. If you click this, it will delete just the individual way point. Do not click on the trash icon that pops out from the stop, or you will delete the entire stop.

Copying a trip, how and why.
To make a copy of a trip, click the small wrench icon at the top of the Trip menu on the left, and choose Copy Trip. You'll be able to give it any name you wish. Making a copy of a trip is a great way to build what-if scenario trips, or to create a copy of trip before you begin making several changes to it, similar to making a backup of a file or document.

Using RV Trip Wizard on multiple devices.
You can use RV Trip Wizard on any devices you may have. RV Trip Wizard will run on almost any device with a standard web browser like Chrome or Firefox. However, being logged in to multiple devices at the same time and/or trying to use RV Trip Wizard on multiple devices at the same time will result in time-out errors as well as screen refresh issues. You should only use RV Trip Wizard on one device at a time.
