Question RVLife GPS on a Spare Phone w/o Cell Service?

I submitted the following question to RVLife: Can I use the RVLife RV GPS App on an old phone that I do not have cellular phone plan service on it?

Response: I am going to give you a maybe. You will need to use wifi to download the maps and trips, after that I have no idea. I would give it a try, just a simple trip and map. I repurpose my old phones if I can also.
Let us know if you need further assistance.

Anyone tried using RVLife GPS on old phone or maybe even a tablet?
Thank You,

you can simulate an old disconnected phone. download the app onto your current phone and then turn on airplane mode. that will disable cellular and wifi connections.

So I just tried this....

Went to the App and selected a trip. A message came up:
"Download Maps & RV Routing for Trip".
"Download offline maps and RV Site routing data for your trip and never worry about internet connectivity".

I downloaded the maps (I only needed one state and it was 1.2GB). Not sure I'd do that if only on cellular data.

I turned on Airplane Mode, went to the RV Life app, selected the trip and followed the prompts to start the trip. It all worked OK.

Ya think the RV Trip Wizard "expert" at the other end of the help desk line could have done that!!!! geesh....!

He'll probably get an email notification of the reply. Thanks from me as well. I've got an old iPhone I've considered trying to use for another purpose. You've convinced me it might be possible and worth the try.

I see the replies

Thank you for trying this out, I have not purchased the RVLife app yet. Looks like I don't have to tie up my cell phone while driving in order to use the GPS. This should work well.
