Hopefully I can give you some help. If you want to work on it, look at the following:

What rev of iOS are you running?
How much total memory do you have?
How much memory have you used, for sample, while I was having my issues, I was using 15.2 of 16 Gb total memory, leaving me under 1 Gb of swap space, not a lot for data intensive applications like RVTW (maps, plotting campgrounds and routes burn up the memory bits)
What are you using for internet connectivity?

I can not help you with the Garmin interface, but I am sure there are folks that use it and can assist you.
