RVTW routing versus Google and Waze

Planning a trip from Houston to Whitefish, MT. My normal approach is to pick my final destination (Whitefish). Let TW map the route, then pick my overnight stays along the way.

My rig is a 45' Class A that is 13' 4" high, which is all plugged into TW.

TW takes me to Dallas, then North through OK, left turn in KS to Denver.

Google and Waze both take me to Dallas, but then through North TX, cut the corner through Raton Pass in NM, then North to Denver.

From Denver to Whitefish they all agree.

The Denver leg of the trip is about 120 miles further on TW. I've done to Houston to Denver drive through Raton Pass and there is nothing that would prevent my rig from getting through.

Is this normal or am I missing something?

What does it do when you turn off the RV routing?

You can also drag your Trip Wizard route to Dallas to match the other routes and see if any red flags come up. Other variables would be if you have 'Fastest Route' or 'Shortest Route' set up differently between them. That would give you different routing. I never use shortest routing as it will get you into trouble, especially when you get near any big cities.

The OP's experience is a good reason to examine the route any computer chooses carefully. As a practice I also pick my destination and let RVTW plan the route and pick campsites along the way. Before departing on each leg I check the route chosen by my Garmin GPS and compare the routes picking the best one.

Does Google Maps and Waze even have setting for over sized vehicles like RVs?

Not that I know of.

I "monitor" the road ahead with WAZE. But as for using it (or Google Maps) for routing when in the RV I don't do that - it always thinks I'm in a car (or normal sized vehicle) and often recommends alternate routes I would never be able to take the rig.

Amarillo

Amarillo is a breeze to go thru on Hwy. 287. About 12 minutes total.
