Tail of the Dragon
I note that the May 24 upgrade blocks the Tail of The Dragon road. Is there any background to this decision? Are there other roads that are going to be blocked in the future?

The Rail of the Dragon, AKA US 129, was blocked by Graham County inMay 2020. I believe it is open now. What is the source of your info?

It was noted in the May 24 RVTW "What's New" bulletin. I was wondering why.

I looked at the Tail of the Dragon website, the Store at the Dragon website, and Graham counties website and did not see any indication that the road is closed.

The road is not closed, it is not appropriate for RVs. Mogo Dugway(sp.) is blocked also.

That’s for sure! 318 curves in 11 miles.
But it’s great fun in a Corvette (or a motorcycle).

I live 18 miles from the start of "The Dragon" where it crosses Tabcat Bridge when you leave the lake and start up the hill. There are many, many signs long before you get there that the road is closed to any trailers longer than 30'....and that is on both the TN side and the N.C. side of the access to U.S. 129. I've been through there literally hundreds of times, in both a car, a pickup truck, and lots of different motorcycles. I will confirm, as others have stated....IT IS NOT A ROAD FOR CAMPERS TO BE ON.....tow behind, 5th Wheel, or any RV class A, B, or C. Over the years I've seen semi trucks try to make it through there and it basically shuts down the entire road.....IF they even make it through. Many have tried, some have, some haven't but suffice to say, if you are trying to take an RV through there, you've made a big mistake.
So having said that, most days, and especially on the weekends, there will be at least one or two law enforcement officers up there on patrol and or watching for speeders, lane crossers (The entire 11 miles or so is double yellow) and for longer than length allowed vehicles). They will cite offenders with tickets and of course you will piss off lots of other drivers/riders that are up there trying to enjoy the day. GO AROUND it, for your sake as well as for others.

ROFL. I have driven on a few roads I should not have, similar to the tail of the dragon. Its really a white knuckle experience when you get a 40' pusher towing on a road like that. Ever since my first encounter, California Freeway 94 from Campo, west to Potrero County Park. I try to avoid them at all costs. -Bill
