That's how DW wants to travel, but I'm afraid I wont find a campsite on just a few hours notice - so I want to be sure to have a place to stay and many of the places (I sort by 4-stars and above) I call are always booked weeks in advance.
Perhaps with a few more years experience, I'll get more comfortable with the nomad approach to RVing.

Ditto on 50 mph average if your travel day is using interstates. If on secondary roads I always lower it to 45 mph. This includes driving and all stops for gas, lunch, rest areas, etc.

Avg Speed / ETA / Total Miles
Very helpful discussion. I'm planning our first extended trip and had originally set it up for 55 mph. From reading these comments, I think I need to change it to 50 mph instead, even though this trip will be interstate most travel days.
On a related topic, can someone explain why the total miles shown on the TRIP page (366, for example) is VERY different than the miles shown on the MY TRIPS summary page (576 for same trip) for that same trip? HUGE DIFFERENCE!

I checked on one of my trips out and there is a 5 mile difference. I went to check another and hung my computer, I have a weak internet connection so that may be part of the problem.

Are you sure you can overnight at the RA's you have slected? Many RA's don't allow overnight.

I also use 50 mph to estimate travel times.
