Trip stops vanish, I've lost confidence in RVTW.

I'm new to RV Trip wizard, but it seems pretty intuitive and easy to navigate. I had fun finding lots of new information for a trip I'm planning. I spent over a hour putting together the beginnings of a trip, which I named "Fall 2021". I had about 6 stops added to the trip, then signed off to resume planning more today. However when I opened up my trip named Fall 2021 today, all of my stops are gone, it said 0 stops, as if I never did anything but name the trip. The video I watched said I didn't have to save anything, as each stop is automatically saved when "Added". I think I did everything right. Is there any advice for this anomaly?

I'm glad I only lost a hour of work. My whole 3 month trip will take about 10hrs total to plan, so if I used RV TripWizard I would be really upset if I lost that much work. Right now I'm not too confident in the integrity of RV TripWizard software. I must be doing something wrong, but I'm not sure what that would be.

I just did a test adding 4 stops to my original "Fall 2021" trip again. I logged out, then logged back in. This time all 4 stops are there, no problem.

I'm just weary of using RVTW so far. I need to know why I lost all my stop data.

Most of the time, this is either a very bad internet connection, or you had RV Trip Wizard opened up somewhere else as well. Could have been in another tab, another browser, or on another computer.

Don't lose faith. I'd say something unexpected intervened to cause your issue. I've been using RVTW for a few years now for multi-week/month trips with great satisfaction. I'd send a specific inquiry to the Help Desk detailing operating system, browser info, etc. and any other unique items you may have noted as you put your trip together. You may come up with an explanation for what happened. In the end, it may very well be that you experienced a very untimely one-off issue. But keep at it as RVTW is a great tool.

Don’t fret…something odd is amiss and you shouldn’t experience that kind of loss.

Sometimes, I’ve caught myself not opening the right trip, etc.

Hope you recover your work.

This is very likely what caused my loss of data, having two windows open with me logged into RVTW. I had no idea this would be a problem causing loss of data. I use multiple windows all the time with Google Maps with no problem. I guess I made a bad assumption that wasn't a problem.

I've read a lot of FAQS about RVTW and nothing was mentioned about two open windows as being a problem to avoid. Maybe this needs added to their FAQS page.

Thanks for the help to rebuild my confidence in RVTW.

Sounds like Service Code 14 - User Error..... haha... at least that's when it happens to me.... my usual mistake is eliminating or deleting the wrong stop; and there is no way to "undelete" it.....

hang in there. it was most likely a one time thing....

I had a trip that I had been working on for over a month since I build as I travel and it got bollixed up. I asked for Help and they found my file and fixed it so I could resume without having to rebuild. All of these files are on RVTW servers.

Don’t use the app

Since RVTW is a web-based application, it doesn’t make much sense to use an app. Rather, it makes more sense to NOT use the app. I had the app crash on my phone, and all work was lost when it recovered. I went to RVTW’s website, where I was still logged in and found both of the open trips corrupted. Only an unopened trip was intact.
Being new to the site, I didn’t bother with a complaint since the “trips” were bogus and had been created just to get familiar with RVTW.
However, after reading this and other similar complaints, I’ve decided to have one and only one instance of RVTW open anywhere. I’m not saying the phone app is bad, but its mere existence means that RVTW could be open on more than one platform, leading to lost and/or corrupted work.

Sorry you had a data loss.

Just to be clear, the APP is an adjunct to the RVTW website. The planning must be done via the website, whether a mobile or desktop browser. Trip planning is NOT done within the RVL app.

I’m not positive, but I believe that the RVL app merely “reads” the data from the RVTW website. Therefore, I’d be surprised if the app has any ability to corrupt your data.

Finally, the ONLY way to provide navigation with the RV Trip Wizard, is to use the APP…the website does NOT have that capability. This, of course, is not MY preference nor is the first choice of what I have a feeling is the majority of RVTW users.

So, the RVL app has it’s purposes of campground research, verification of stops along your trip, etc. but otherwise has limited usefulness for many.

I haven't had any data corruptions after learning to have only one tab open at a time with RVTW. My confidence is growing.

I only use RVTW for planning routes with my laptop. After downloading RVL and opening my trip, it doesn't look that useful unless I download the maps, which occupies too much space on my phone. My trip is for 3 months, over 7000 miles, so the maps would be over 6GB of memory. I intend to continue using our Garmin 890 for navigation, and Google maps for the final mile each travel day (since Garmin occasionally can't find my campground).

RVTW has been very helpful to find camping options, and it quickly estimates my daily travel miles. The reviews are helpful, as well as the photos too. Quick easy access to campground websites is a huge timesaver.

I have been using RVL app exclusively as my nav since April. Once I got on top of the learning curve, I found it to be reliable and accurate, albeit imperfect. As long as it continues to serve me as it has thus far, I do not intend to replace it. It’s a great concept that I hope will only improve and be enhanced as time goes by.

I too lost some stop information a while back, but after looking at the logs from my internet router my cell tower connection had dropped during the time I was making the edits. So, I believe they never actually got written up to the server. So the next morning they weren't there. (a very unhappy camper) I have not had that happen since, about 3 months since that occurred. We are on a 6 Month trip using the RVTW for all planning now. -Bill

PS. Cannot wait till they make stops editable!! Deleting and recreating each time something needs changing is its only major core functionality issue right now. (to me)
