Anyone put 4 GC batteries on tongue?

I've got a 2012 SW-21 Desert Fox toyhauler and it fits our needs very well, just my wife and I and two Huskies, two KTM's or 2 BMW's based on our riding choice.

I'd like to add 2 more T-105 Trojans in front of the trailer on the tongue, but behind the propane. I just need to get a frame welded up to hold them. Also thinking a lockable tool box with a steel frame under it might be prudent.

Has anyone done something similar and do you have pictures of your solution?

The only time we need the power of 4 batteries is when it is "cold" and we are running the furnace to keep our tanks from freezing. We've put 320 watts of solar on the roof and I think this is adequate to recharge 4-batteries. We also have the Onan 4000 generator.

Installed these in fall. 4 6 volts with 2 boxes. Used 2 pieces of 2" angle iron. 1/8" thickness. Screwed the angle iron to the frame with #14 self tapping screws and screwed the boxes down to the angle iron. You can weld the angle iron to the frame as well but if you ever want to take them off later it will be more difficult.

Tow vehicle is a 2008 Dodge 3/4 ton diesel with load leveler bags and equalizer hitch.

That is about exactly what I'd like to do. Where did you get those boxes?

Thanks for the answer.

We get the boxes from a company that supplies our batteries. The company name is Canadian Energy. I would check your local battery people and see if they can get them for you.

Take a look at the ORV website - they have a 4 battery box option - I don't remember exactly where they get the box. I am thinking that the ORV frame is similar to the Northwoods frame and perhaps the same solution would work.

The battery boxes are manufactured by Century Plastics in Richmond, BC, Canada. Here is a pdf of the battery boxes that are available:

I used a Zee Dee ATV Tool Box from Amazon to put 4-6v batteries in. There was about 6" space between the batteries in the middle that allows for the latch and the strut. The extra 120 pounds of tongue weight actually improved the towing.
