Victron Orion DC to DC 50A Charger

I will be installing the above charger this week and will need to run a 4 AWG cable from the front storage bay to the pin box. Is there an access panel somewhere to gain access to the cable pathway to the pin box? I can't find the rv end of the cables going to the pin box now.

Thanks!

The umbilical from the 7 pin is junctioned at the pin box and it looks like individual wires are loomed together into the front storage area on the drivers side (I think). To be honest I'm scratching my head as to how you would fish a #4 wire through there. I can't see another route to the pin box either. You could surface mount to the underside of the overhang. Unfortunately that's the route I think I'd take. Any other route looks way too complicated. Please come back to us and let us know what you came up with.

Good afternoon! I reached out to Northwood and received the below response:

(They run out of the pin box on drivers side then down the frame rail to the generator compartment. Then over to the battery's. With it being built your best option is to come up out of the battery box into the bed room under the bed. Then route it into the closest then down it to the pin box from above.)

Monday I will start working to determine a route and will update the post to tell what I found and did.

Thanks!

Chris

Unless you upgrade the trucks wiring, your not going to get 50 amps thru it.

I will be running 4 ga wires from the alternator down the frame of the truck to the bed where the 7-pin is located and they will be terminated in an Anderson connector. Then that plugs into another Anderson connector that will terminated on a Victron Lynx distributor where the batteries are terminated.

Thanks!

I never thought of going that route. I think I'd remove the hitch first. And I'd go from the pin box into the closet not closet into the pin box. I'd worry about missing the pin box going from the inside. But I'm also a bit concerned as to just where in the closet it would end up. Maybe you can get an idea where it would fall by measuring a perpendicular from the edge of a window. Good luck, thanks for the update.

Well I have it all installed and it is working fantastic. After pulling everything apart and looking at all the drawings from the manufacturer and with the steel structure that was in place I decided to surface mount it and that worked out great. Now I will see how that is over time, just one more item on my yearly maintenance list.

ground location?

Did you ground to chassis, battery or engine block?
I'm hoping to install in a few days. Thought I read somewhere that it should be grounded to block due to large current load so as to not burn out chassis ground, but charger manual shows at chassis.

Thanks, Kevin

Kevin, I ran two 4 ga wires directly from one of my vehicle batteries to the RV via an Anderson connector. The negative wire was terminated on a common stud and a negative wire ran from it to the negative terminal of the Orion DC to DC Charger. I then ran a negative wire from the same stud to the negative side of the Lynx distributor and the negative side to the Lynx is connected to the negative side of my batteries and to the chassis of the RV.

And what size fuse did you install on that 4awg ?

Sorry for the delay, we are on the road heading to Montana right now.

I installed a 60A DC circuit breaker at the positive terminal of the battery and put a 60A fuse at the Lynx distributor. I bought all of this from Nate at Explorist.life, he is good and all his calculations are correct. However I bought the wire from Windy Nation, they are a US company providing Made in America products.
