Alaska 2016
Anyone wading to Alaska in 2016? We're planning to leave from Tacoma, WA in mid June.
Haven't driven the Alcan since the 80's.

We will be heading home to Alaska middle of May.
The plan is:
We will are starting to head home middle of April from the East Coast. We'll be spending some time out West National/state parks.
The middle of May we will be crossing the border at the Sumas Washington border crossing, heading up the Cassiar depending on snow (if it's melted down to pavement) other wise we'll take the Alcan.
Put some dates out there if you're interested we can tvl North together. We will be doing a few short side trips if the weather co-operates generally taking our time.

I was looking for Roll Call Alaska but this thread came up. Maybe we could make this the one place for 2016 Alaska, ask the moderator to rename it or just link each together?

We can't leave Washington until mid June. Granddaughter graduates from WWU on June 11th. Haven't done much planning yet. Enjoying Key West to much to plan that far out.

This far out I targeted June 1st or 2nd to leave NE. Ohio for Alaska. Plan on 3 weeks (4200 miles) to make it to North Pole AK. to boon-dock for a few weeks at my sis-n-laws for the first part of the adventure. Plan to return or think about returning Labor Day.
We have flown up 4-5 times the last 18 years, but this will be the first RVing trip up north.

I posted this on the other thread but i'm not sure if everyone is checking both threads. To protect your expensive toy.
Try this web site you can buy exactly what you are looking for, custom cut to fit your vehicle. You can also buy in bulk 18 or 24 inch wide any length that you want. It is easy to install yourself. We used it on our Nest Egg tear drop (fiberglass now our extra bed room), to protect the front from rock damage while crossing the Top of The World Highway. It is still on the trailer, wash it clean, it is almost completely invisible.
Invisible Mask - Clear Bra Automotive Paint Protection, 3M Scotchgard, Carbon Fiber 3M Films
I would recommend anyone traveling the ALCAN add it to to the front of your RV, even just a bulk sheet will shave the paint job.
3M makes a spray on invisible shield, I don't think it would add much rock protection but would help with the bug strikes. It isn't expensive, you can wash it and when you are back down South peal it off with any bug residue.

Do yourself a favor and go one way on the Alcan and the other on the Cassiar (BC Hwy-37). If timing permits, go up on the Alcan and come back down on the Cassiar in Aug or Sept so you can stop off at Hyder, AK to see the bears fishing for salmon.
About 15 miles east of Smithers, BC you'll find Fort Telkwa RV Park. It is a nice little place along the river and they provide a free power washer for cleaning up your RV. It had 50 amp power and lots of room even for our 43 ft coach.
We did Alaska again last summer and had great weather. We went up on the Cassiar and through Whitehorse to Dawson City. We crossed into Alaska east of Chicken on the Top of the World Highway on May 21st, the day that border crossing opened for the season. The temperature that day was 85 degrees and a week later, when we drove north of Fairbanks to the Arctic Circle, it was 87 degrees.
Enjoy the experience.

Probably passed you, we were headed North that same day. We live in Alaska and spend a lot of time up up North (Dawson, Whitehorse, Haines Jtc. back to Tok) typical loop.
We're coming back in the spring, then down in the Fall, may stop at Hyder.
