Alaska 2024

We are just starting to put together a trip from Florida to Alaska spring and summer of 2024. We are thinking of leaving early April and plan on being home when the neighbors see us pulling into our driveway when we are done. I think we are taking the southern route to the west coast up the west coast to Alaska. Then heading back down and taking the Canadian Highway east until we decide to head back south to Florida. If anyone is interested in joining us please let me know. Nothing is set in stone, and we are open to anyother ideas.

We did that in 2002, leaving Florida in late April and returning home in early November. About 17,000 miles total. Took the southern & western routes both ways, though not identical in each direction. Went north along the east side of the Rockies and then hopped across to Oregon. Came back thru Alberta to Montana and then down to San Diego area before heading back east.

That's really a huge trip to be doing it with someone. Everyone has different tastes as how fast to go, where to stay, stay for how long, what to see or not see, etc. It's really best if you do it at your own pace. It's not a difficult trip... just a long one.

Plan to cross the Canadian border no earlier than the 3rd week of May. Plan to leave Alaska no later than the 2nd week of September.

Don't wear yourself out touring the lower 48 which you can do more in depth on another trip. Save your energy for Canada, Yukon and Alaska. Don't rush the trip. Think of how often you'll do it. If you still have energy and money left then do some lower 48 touring on your return.

Well in 2021 we toured the lower 48 across the north, down to AZ and then back across to Florida. 12000 miles and 4 months later back home. I am not looking for anyone to do the whole trip just if they are interested in any or all. Just wondering if there was any interest or if someone has been to Alaska and was wanting to go back and show us the way.

i'm pretty certain that we'll be wandering up there this spring. it's depending on the spring thaw when we will actually leave though. the wife really likes Meziadin junction so we will make that the first long duration camp. wander over to Hyder, then wander north and see what we see. we've been trying for several years to make it to Alaska but we keep getting side tracked till we run out of vacation time, there's just too much to see/do. forest fire activity will play a major part in where/when we travel. the last couple years have been really bad for highway closures.we tried 2 years in a row to do the Watson lake circle route. maybe this year. i'm subbing the thread to see if our timelines happen to link up.

Did Alaska in 22. Great trip. Won't do another with a group. Go independent or with very small group. Many free overnite pull outs. Gas was our biggest expense. Avoid the cities. Take your time drive slow. Get "Milepost" guide. Stop often. Take lots of pics.

Similar plans for 2024.

Departing NH in early summer - driving West in Canada, back East through upper US (for now).

Happy to connect.
