Alaska and Canada campground rv length issues?

We are planning to visit Canada and Alaska this summer with our new 39ft 5th wheel.
I'm sure we'll be doing quite a bit of boon-docking but I'm wondering if on those occasions the wife wants to stay at a campground, will the 39 foot length be a problem?
Have any of you had this problem?

No problems with most RV parks. Many RVs are your size... or bigger. Be aware that the parks are mostly unlike the lower 48 parks; i.e., they are not 'resorts' but instead, usually a gravel parking lot. Enjoy the trip. Beautiful boondocking spaces!

Get Mike and Terry Church's book 'Alaskan Camping' which includes Canada and the Yukon. It covers both RV parks and boondocking spots.

Make sure to call the parks. Each year some close. It's a hard life, especially with Covid and no traveling. Same for fuel stations. Drive on the top half of your tank and don't plan to wait until you see a better price.

Canada and Alaska

There are provisional parks in Canada and the Yukon. Not very expensive but basically you are boondocking except they offer firewood. Take an axe with you though as it is not split into small pieces. The Milepost is good to locate these parks. A lot of times when you pull into a park the mosquitoes will swarm your vehicle. Turn off the engine and wait a few minutes before getting out. It helps. We took nets to put over our heads but never used them. Good to have though. A place you have to visit is Talkeetna. We were fortunate and saw Denali 5 days in a row. Great town to spend the Fourth of July. Great sourdough items. Have fun, Travato John

We did the trip in 2016 in a 42’ class A and had no problems getting in and out of RV parks.
We did a lot of boondocking such as just pulling off the side of the road with no problems.

Assume trip. 11437 mi. 87 days.
Take care

Download the Allstays Camp and RV app. Works without cell coverage, has info about campsites and services.

Here's a typical Provincial campsite. Usually lots of room but likely you will have to back in. Most provincial campsites are dry camping.

Done the trip four times now & the provincial parks, the Yukon Government CGs & the Alaska State recreation CGs have always been first choice.

Just like the lower 48, size in these parks matters. There are always a few sites able to accommodate a large rig but are they available? These places are usually first come, first choice & all too often the few sites suitable for a long rig have a class C, a truck camper or a B sitting in them. Just beware.

Worst example of this thoughtlessness seen was in Denali, Teklaneka CG, which is almost always full in season & pick your own site. Not many really long sites. In a site later paced out at more than 60' sat a VW Westfalia B. Loads of sites better suited to it around.

Do not assume that all provinces ( not provisionals?) are the same. Some provinces do have provincial parks with full hook ups. They may also have sites with power and water. Pull throughs are in some parks. But not many. There are some private parks that are no different than in the USA. However since Covid the best CG's are booked until 2023! hard to find a spot. Some Walmarts do allow boondocking. Trucks stops are horrible. My comments about full parks applies to the USA as well. I live in Canada.

Been twice Alcan N bound Cassier S bound. I recommend the "Mile Post" paperback, 2 for 1 discount book, sold in grocery stores. Last time we went it was over $100 and paid for itself the first time we used it. Took "Top of the World" highway to Chicken. Boondocked mostly. I too operate on the top half of the fuel/gas tank. Refill often. Keep your lp tank filled too. Great Trip, Enjoy!!

Order the 'Toursaver 2/1' coupon book online before you go. Then you can plan better.

Also get 'The Milepost' for history and maps & Mike and Terry Church's 'Alaskan Camping' book which includes the Yukon and Canada. It has RV parks along with boondocking places.

Be aware while reading anything that businesses close down every year, including stores and fuel stations. It's hard to make a living in the areas - especially with Covid closures. So always have backups for whatever you're planning. Drive on the top 1/2 of your tank. Don't try to shop for prices.

Be aware of the fact that many organized RV tours occur between June 1 and Sep 1 and RV parks with E/W/S are mostly reserved by the organizers. Follow previous advice and call ahead.
We joined a SMART caravan in 2012 with our 40' 5er towed by a CC/LB dually truck. We never had any trouble parking at any RV park along our routes.
