Alaska or Canada this Summer
Alaska or Canada this Summer can be kissed off this year. Canada has just announced that cross border travel has just been eliminated until at least JULY 21st.

So much for the Canadian and Alaskan tourist industries..... GONE
Last year was gone and this year pretty much gone. Could any business survive just about 2 years without their patrons?

Hi Pigman
You are looking at last years news! Here is a link to one of this years articles.

Don't get your hopes up yet though as here in Canada we are slow to the vaccination party. They say we all will be done by the end of July. Perhaps the border will be opened in June for those who can prove they have been vaccinated.

Major apologies... Alpinedrvr is correct. That's what I get for looking at the first listing a search engine presents.
We're trying to get to Alaska for the 10th and probably the last time. We go up the 2nd or 3rd week in May and return beginning of September. If both the US and Canada would realize that one size DOES NOT FIT all, and people crossing in the eastern parts of both countries are very different from those crossing in the west, maybe there could be some progress. With us wanting to cross to go to Alaska, in a fully self contained RV, the only stops we make are for fuel. We carry plenty of food and other consumables and overnight in wide spots in the road. In addition, we're both a month plus past our second Covid vaccination. I'm sure a vast number of Canadians crossing the US to get to Mexico are in similar circumstances.
Well, one more chance... If there's nothing but another put-off in April, we're done. Anyone looking for a 43' Tiffin with all the bells an whistles lovingly maintained? Drop a note April 22.

Yup, trip #2 to Newfoundland was plan A for us. Any hopes of that happening are pretty much scrubbed. Attention is 100% on planning a West Coast trip. Been there too but it has been awhile.

We were trying to leave last fall but couldn’t get out..this year who knows what gonna happen..my plan is to ship my truck out as I have a TT in storage in Washington. They were letting Alaska residents drive thru Canada to return home..just couldn’t go from Alaska to lower 48.

Four Canadian provinces are reporting record daily case counts as the start of the third wave of infections gains ground .
Lack of in-house vaccine production , has led to supply delays , and vaccination appointment cancellations . I've had my first , and been told , second shot probably four months away .
Ontario has reports of households with the Covid variants , having everyone in hospital ; and Government there has instituted a four week lock down .
All provinces reporting the variants are effecting younger individuals .
No good data on possible spread of Covid , by vaccinated individuals yet ; and that could well be one of the deciding factors on border opening.
I'm beginning to wonder if things will straighten out to the point where , my winter travel to the USA will be possible by October , if my DW isn't able to get both her shots by then.
Travel medical costs could also be a BIG factor .
What did Mr. Berra say ? " It ain't over till it's over . "

Well , that was not the case back in October 2020, when a Canadian couple with trailer in tow ; heading to their property in Mexico ; were turned around at the border to Washington state.
Then much to their dismay ; even though they had only crossed the border to turn around after being denied access to the USA , they were considered to have been out of country , and told to quarantine for fourteen days as the came back into Canada.

The best wisdom during all of this is to "Don't expect things to be better soon". As someone earlier in the thread mentioned, we are now getting hammered here in parts of Canada with daily counts at their worst in some cases since this whole merry go round got underway. Vaccines have been slow in coming although this appears to be slowly starting to straighten out but I wouldn't expect the land borders to open up anytime soon this year. It may well be far into to the year before any chance of those borders opening up to regular traffic and maybe not even then. Best plan is to travel within your own country and try to make the best of it. Fortunately we live in two very large country's. Imagine if we were the size of Switzerland???

On April 6, 2021 our AK tour has been canceled again. 3rd year we can't go. I'm predicting US vacation areas will be jammed this year. We are looking for non popular places to go.
2 million more RVs built in last 5 years.

Yeah, not looking too encouraging. Two weeks minus until the latest (and our) deadline, but you never know. They could surprise us (yeah, and I've got a bridge for sale in Brooklyn, Cheap). Even though hospitalizations and deaths here are way down and over half the population immunized or immune, authorities keep talking like it was September. Common sense has little to do with it and the "science" depends on who's lying about it
