We'll be in Anchorage next August. I just learned that the park I wanted to stay in (Anchorage RV Park) has closed permanently. I've seen listings for other CGs but they all seem to be parking lots. Are there any opinions on these or suggestions for other parks with hookups within 10 miles of downtown Anchorage?

A lot of the campgrounds in AK are parking lots, we stayed behind the Moose Club $5 a night. The Elks had nice sites beside the river.
Most filling stations and grocery stores have dump stations.

I'm afraid you might be SOL. We were in Anchorage this last Aug, and stayed at the Anchorage RV Park, which does you no good at all. We did drive around and look at all of the other RV parks in town, and they were not much. There is a public campground just north of town, clean, no hookups that we noticed, but it did have a dump station. For the life of me I can not remember its name, and I can't find our Milepost. As others said, you could boondock in one of a jillion parking lots in town. You could also go about 30 miles north to Wasilla, there are several full hookup parks there...

Go to the Alaska Campground Owners Association web site. There are about six CG's in Anchorage. We will be there this coming summer so I hopw that at least one of them is O.K.
