Baja Mexico Suggestions

We are thinking of traveling the Baja peninsula next January. Seeking suggestions on good guidebooks or sites about RVing there. Also looking for suggestions on joining a caravan there - things are a bit uncertain with Mexican crime at the moment. Thanks in advance for your help!

Interesting topic beings my DW wants to go there.
But I will also say, things are a bit uncertain with US crime at the moment.
But I hear ya. Myself, I am a bit hesitant about going to Mexico, especially since you are not allowed any firearms. JMHO.

That was in the Rio Grand valley, a long way away from Baja.

Here is a thought I just had. I read this forum a lot and have read about traveling to Mexico.
In the US, we dial 9-1-1 for emergencies.
I wonder what one does while in Mexico.
I have seen nothing on this as of yet.

Oh good grief.

The OP asked for specific information on RVing in the Baja.

Sorry, have not been down the Baja in years, but certainly enjoyed camping on the beach when we did.

Hopefully a recent visitor will be able to help with your question.

There is a group that goes down there every year and welcome newcomers. They host information seminars as a group prior to crossing the boarder and organize small group caravans to head down. They have a specific location they go to also. It is organized with members of the “bus conversion magazine”. Contact Gary Hartt there at:

There are a few YouTube motorcycle camping channels that go to Baja and they don’t seem to have any problems down there. Seems like the border towns are more risky than Baja.

We just returned from the Baja at the end of December. Had a fantastic time. If you wish to travel with a group and are a Facebook member join Discover Baja Caravans group. Individuals will post on the group site asking if others want to caravan to Baja, where they will be crossing and when. You meet up and caravan.

You can also join the Discover Baja Travel Club. They will give you great information to Baja such as insurance requirements, forms needed to cross the border and provide updates such as road condition, fishing reports, whale watching, etc.

We may have been the last to snorkel with whale sharks as Mexico has stopped the activity due to diminishing numbers of the endangered species. Also saw many releases of sea turtles taking place along our stops.

We went as far south as Cabo but left the RV in Los Barriles as Cabo does not have many RV parks.

Good luck with planning!!

911 as well. It’s on every cop car. We just spent two weeks touring little towns in Sinaloa using Mazatlan as our base. . It’s clearly written on all first responder vehicles.

We toured the Baja extensively with our little class C. Way fun. Lots to see. It gets more interesting south of mulege. Do the golden triangle and spend some time in Todos santos.

Baja Nomads is (or was) a good source of info.

Just go and have a great time. Carry spares, fresh water pump, vent covers, etc. Marinas have some RV spares. Great country. Wonderful people.

Enjoy your trip.
