Customs entering Canada

Going to Canada next month and wondering about food from US into Canada.
How strict are the border folks. I know you are not supposed to take food into Canada but do they they stop and check every MH? I would like to smoke a couple pieces of meat to take on our trip next month.
Problem????

Eggs were a problem during the bird flu problem in the fall ( both directions ).
Even you dog food may not be allowed .

I though I had the Canadian Government web site on all the restrictions and can't find it at the moment .
I'll be back.

I'm not able to get the link to work .

Google " Travel to Canada " for the regulations .

Hi,
We are Canadians living on a border town to the USA and travel cross border occassionally.
I have used the site below to get up to date information on food restrictions coming into Canada:

https://inspection.canada.ca/food-safety-for-consumers/bringing-food-into-canada-for-personal-use/eng/1389630031549/1389630282362

We always declare all our purchases when we return to Canada and have not had a problem with our groceries.
We have also traveled home after trips to Florida and have not had to surrender any groceries. I would expect that they will ask you what food you are bringing with you. I expect normal groceries for personal use would be allowed - as long as you check the Canadian government site for restrictions.

We had to surrender raw poultry and eggs this past February at the booth when we entered the USA. We could keep our boiled eggs. Raw poultry is a big concern due to the Avian flu problem in both countries.

I'm not sure what the odds are of you being pulled over to secondary for an inspection.
By the way, I'd love to sample some of that smoked meat. Where will you be camping?

Safe journey!

Came into CA today at a small Saskatewan crossing. Nobody in front of us. Nobody behind when we cleared.

No problem. Done it before. No eggs. No seeded produce. No produce onboard at all actually. Did not have an amount of alcohol worth talking about. Did check vehicle papers, registered to an LLC so that made it a little unusual for the guy. We are not US citizens, which made us even more 'different' from the normal.

Still he whole process took less than 10 minutes. The only comment I can make is that the border guy had about as much personality as 10 day old moose scat. Like a box of chocolates you never know who or what you will get. I have met some great border people & some never to be seen again, I hope.

Don't try to sneak anything across the border! If you're stopped for a search it's not a big deal. Sometimes they do random searches even if they don't suspect anything. Answer ALL questions honestly with a simple 'yes' or 'no'. Don't offer anything else than what is asked. They don't want to hear explanations or chatter. They are serious at their job!

Irene, above, didn't create a link to click on. Here it is:

We crossed the border from Montana into Canada via Sweetgrass last week. It took about 3 - 5 minutes. They asked the usual questions about guns, drugs, and booze. I told the, what we had and didn’t have. There were multiple questions about guns and ammunition. Once the questions were answered, I was on my way. There were no questions about any kind of food.
