Mexico for many months, suspend US insurance?
We'll be in Mexico for 4-5 months and State Farm provides no coverage beyond 15 miles from the border. Every state is different but in FL, if you put your insurance on hold the state may suspend your drivers license.
Anyone else with a FL DL gone through this and was there any option other than to pay for something that's providing zero value?
Thanks

Have you checked with your insurance company? This is simply a guess but they may be able to something administratively that would satisfy your state's insurance requirement while you're out of the country.

Definitely check with your insurance company for the correct answer.

Had a friend move to Europe for a couple years. Of course he cancelled his auto insurance.
When he got back to the USA he had a heck of a time getting car insurance again as there was no driving history here for them to check for offences, fines, etc,

Same for house insurance if there is a lap.
Then just book min liability, cheapest you can find to get around this.

Already called agent and they recommended contact the dmv. Thought I'd try here first before dealing with the "system" for any experiences.
I've thought about the same thing you mentioned. Take it down to bare bones. Unfortunately it seems you're made to have products which have no value.

Keep basic insurance, a laps in coverage will put you in assigned risk when you get new coverage.
Maybe pick up a storage policy.

Insurance
You can get six month insurance in Mexico plan from agencies that sell Mexico insurance. It will cover anything you drive. Not expensive at all. Less than day in day out coverage. I get it every year when we go. Just keep your present insurance. My two cents. Enjoy
Safe travels

Your US insurance agency may cover you but every time when we went into the Mexican interior you have to have MEXICAN insurance you can buy on both sides right at the border.
