Rocky Point - Mexico

Good Day;

I looked up the thread for Rocky Point - Puerto Penasco Mexico, but it's 4 years ago.
So then has anyone gone to Rocky Point recently?
Any problems with the border crossing?
Any problems getting pulled over by the police, for not seeing one of their hidden stop signs?
RVing at The Reef RV Park - can you kayak in the water off the beach right there, or water to rough?
Would you take your kayaks? Any comments on the possibility of getting them stolen?
And if you got any other comments, willing to listen.
Thanks .. Paul

We went thru in April on our way further South, no problems at the border but they sometimes try to charge you for bringing certain things in like for instance gasoline in containers. They also like to see documentation on boats, not sure if it would apply to kayaks. Have not been to the reef in a few years but have good memories of it. In April the road between Rocky Point and Mayan Palace was horrible, just a bunch of holes with a few shreds of pavement.
The border crossing coming back into the US will likely be a lot longer wait than on the way in. Do an early morning weekday if possible.
In 30 years never been stopped. A friend told me if they stop you and demand you pay an unreasonable fine tell them you want to pay at the station. Also keep two wallets, one with just a small amount in it for "show". Just what I've heard to do but myself never had a problem and been there dozens of times. Don't speed, but stay with normal traffic, not the morons who think it's OK to drive 90.

If you haven't been South of the border you need to be aware of the Mexican speed bumps they call Topes https://trans-americas.com/speed-bum...n-and-loathed/ they are much more severe than ours. It's good to have a co pilot watching for things like this and warn the driver. There are some stop signs at intersections that have traffic signals which is confusing to say the least but when the signals are operational nobody pays attention to the signs.

I'm relaxing in Organ Pipe NP. after returning from 8 weeks Rocky Point. The border crossing is easy in both directions and it's not the stop signs or topes that will get you. It's the speed limits in Sonoyta. Sonoyta is the first Mexican town you will drive through after crossing at Lukeville. Most of the town is 40kph not mph, and a small section is 20kph. Watch your speed and enjoy Rocky Point. I've been going there for years.

I will be there next week, with Kayaks. We stay at the Reef and walk our Yaks down to the water. Dolphins and Seals every day.
