RV train to Churchill, MB
I remember reading years ago about loading your RV onto a flatbed rail car to travel to Churchill. I did some internet searches and found nothing. So I assume that its not being done anymore. But, does anyone remember those trips?
As a side note, my wife and I just scheduled a trip next week to Churchill. Driving 12.5 hours to Thompson, MB, then boarding the passenger train for the rest of the trip. We've booked a low-end polar bear tunda tour, not the great big machines. Should be fun, regardless.

Not the trip that you are talking about, but... Many moons ago (pre mid 1980s), my parents took their 1968 Travco 210 on a piggyback train RV caravan through the Copper Canyon in Mexico. I have some pix around here somewhere. I assume that the liability issues have killed such expeditions now.

You may have been thinking of Copper Canyon in Mexico on the flatbed.

Yes, I remember reading about the Copper Canyon trips. I meant to mention them in my original post. But I remembered Churchill, also. Thought I'd ask, anyway...

Have you considered taking a RV tour with Churchill as the destination? Here is a good account of a Fantasy Tour:

We prefer to travel solo. Spent August and September on a trip from our northern Minnesota home to Newfoundland Labrador. We saw everything we wanted to during our 7000 journey with four ferry rides. Much to see along the way, also, including a brother, sister and two cousins. We leave Sunday for Churchill in my diesel Grand Cherokee and a few motel reservations.

I understand and share that sentiment. When our tour broke up(it was our first RV tour), I was relieved not to be required to be somewhere the next day. That said, I'd do it again. The amount of local knowledge the tour brings to the table is impressive. There were many places we went that I likely would have passed by. The tour group was only 23 coaches plus the guides, so it's not that large a crowd. Travel days are on your own, so you're only travelling together if you want to.

I understand the 'solo' thing.... our preference, also.
Be sure to return for a trip report!
