Shakedown cruise in Alaska

Wife and I just returned from our shakedown cruise with the new 30 foot class c. We live in Anchorage and took the Parks north to shake her out. Most areas still closed but we were able to find nice spots each night. Weather was warm and sunny, warm for us at least, most of the time. We did get a thunderstorm last night up near Willow. We might get thunder and lightning once or twice a summer in Anchorage so it was a treat. Beautiful sunny, then clouds rolled in. Thunder and lightning and rained like crazy, then the sun came back out. We were able to ride bikes for a while. Got back to the rig, hung up the bikes and it started raining again. Perfect timing. Woke to a clear blue sky without a single cloud. And the camp ground was all but empty. Could not believe it, 99 spaces in the CG. We took one in the far back area, nice wooded spot. Kids pulled in sometime in the night and took the spot right across from us and partied until the wee hours. I know I can pick good spots but there were plenty of areas for them to go and not bother us. Oh well, maybe they were scared of the bears. We had a nice outing anyway and got some very wonderful views of Denali, camping one night about in the shadow. Not really but close as you can get by road on the south side.

sounds like a great time for your shakedown run. We live in Tn and are heading up to Anchorage in early June. Taking our motorhome as far as Bellingham, then the ferry up to Whiitier. I have a first cousin in Anchorage we are going to visit. We thought about driving the motorhome up there but then decided against it since our first trip. I hear it is beautiful there

It is beautiful here. But there is beauty everywhere I travel. It is just different kinds. I hope you enjoy your trip here. A Milepost is a good investment. Any printed material is going to be outdated in some regards by the time it finally hits the stands but the Milepost will be your best all around guide. It gives pretty much mile by mile information on the various hiways in Alaska and Northwest Canada.
