Summer through Canada to Alaska

Any initial thoughts on what traveling through Canada to/from Alaska will be like this summer, given the Tarriffs? Please, no political opinions.

My best guess is that these new tariffs will be over and done with by then.

If they are not: Goods in Alaska will be more expensive than the already high prices you would typically find up there. Prices and availability of goods in Canada will depend on the retaliatory tariffs, and no one is sure what that will look like next week much less by summer if the trade war is still going then.

If you are highly risk averse, have a plan B in your pocket to travel elsewhere and only make reservations you can cancel. Otherwise just go and be prepared to pay a more for some goods while on your trip. How much more? You might as well ask the fortune teller at the county fair because no one really knows.

Too soon to tell if this situation will last long. But if they are prolonged it will cost more everywhere. For some who can absorb increases, it will not matter.

Tarrifs should be a non-issue except possibly longer at the boarder on each side.
We travel into Ontario often and love visiting Canada.
Everything except gasoline is similar price to the US, gas will be more.

A Ouija Board is as good a way to predict the future as any.

Except prices always climb higher over the long term.

Political opinions aren't allowed here in the forums .

Having said that , I have to agree this should be a short term squabble.
Too much at stake on both sides.

We are at a stage where it is a toss up. We are based on MD Eastern Shore and are considering either a trip westwards, then the northern tier states and back, or the Canadian Maritimes, including Newfoundland, again.

Been there before for both. We have May-end of October to do it so this will not be a rushed trip at all.

Hopefully the neighbours spat will be over but watching the exchange rate very carefully. Canada could be very advantagous with CDN$ to USD currently at about $1.45-$1. Something to think about even with the high Canadian VAT.

The way things are going right now I can see us not making a decision until we hook up and turn the key. No reservations for anything, other than our plane tickets to Baltimore, so far. We are flexible.

I could say some things but I won’t. Diesel is high in Canada now and will probably go up. Canadian dollars will probably get cheaper. We are still going if health holds up. I enjoy seeing Canada and we will probably meet a lot of nice people there. It doesn’t make us enemies just because we have different opinions. Things are going to cost more I can guarantee that. I don’t understand how the Canadian people can stand for such high diesel prices but everything is taxed, I guess that’s one reason a lot of Canadian’s come south for the winter. I plan on having fun in Alaska and Canada this year, everywhere we go we meet the nicest people

Every year since the last time we traveled in Canada/Alaska prices have gone up and this year will be no different. I would not hesitate going again. It's an awesome trip! If it's on your 'To Do List' then definitely go. It won't be any cheaper next year or the next.

We went to Alaska in 2017 and diesel cost more in Canada than it did here. One place we stopped at in Canada diesel was 1.99 a liter which I thought was high and now diesel is about that high everywhere. From year to year everything goes up, I figure this trip to Alaska will be about $15,000 bucks, 7 years ago the trip cost $12,000 bucks. I’m going because I’m not getting any younger, I plan on spending my granddaughter’s inheritance.
