Traveling east on Trans Canada Highway from Michigan to Montreal

Hi all, we’re going to be in the upper peninsula of Michigan in late August and will be traveling east on the Trans Canada Highway to Montreal. A few questions we have for those who may know:
- How is the cell service? We have T-Mobile & Verizon.
- How is the terrain? Flat, mountainous?
- Any particular places you’d recommend to stay and any sites to see?
- We’re really hoping to see the northern lights if the skies cooperate (that’s not a question, just a bucket list item!)
- Are gas stations plentiful along the highway?
