We live in the Puerto Vallarta area during the winter. Not sure about diesel prices but we purchased gasoline (regular) yesterday for $21.50 MXN per liter. Works out to about $4.00 per gallon at the current exchange rate. If I remember correctly diesel was about the same. We've driven down to Vallarta a number of times before we bought our condo and were living and cruising on our boat. We always crossed in Nogales and the trip down was pleasant and the main highways are quite good. We rarely drove after dark, primarily because cattle love to sleep on the cool pavement, and spent the nights in Navajoa, and Mazatlan on the way down. The BS of the "horror" stories about traveling in Mexico are pretty much just that, BS.

Has it been comforting and easy, or challenging? I've had both kinds of trips down there. (Enjoyed both kinds, too. One kind just keeps you more on your toes.)

It has been all the above.

Comforting, Life has been slow and we do not read the news anymore.

Easy, We boondock on beaches all the time no private beaches people are extremely pleasant.

Challenging, Our Spanish skills are very poor but again the people here are kind and patient.

One final note: I had small fender bender at Costco of all places the process for such things is you each call your insurance company and adjusters show up settle the matter. easy peasy

For rocky point just join the Puerta Penasco face book group. Lots of choices. We will be there for January 2024 with our little trailer. We have toured 25 of the 31 Mexican states (and the federal district) with our old class C Motorhome. Way fun. Amazing country.
