13% of USS Theodore Roosevelt crew tests positive with 60% of those asymptomatic

94% of the crew has been tested so far.

This is roughly tracking a few other studies that showed a 15% to 17% infection rate. This result is somewhat skewed in that the crew is pretty much young and in excellent physical condition but it is a hopeful sign to me. A carrier is in effect a small city with a lot of confined spaces.

The unknown is just how long the infection was onboard, though.

How are they weeding out false positives? Though some people certainly are infected and asymptomatic, a 60% rate of asymptomatic infections seems excessively high.

Maybe not. 25% to 50% seems to be an estimate range.

I don't think it's a high rate. I think that if actual tests are run on the general population we'd see similar results. The problem is that our method of keeping the numbers down relies heavily on not testing people, limiting test supplies, selecting who to test, and not following up on cause of death. Until we want to get honest with ourselves we can only make presumptions. So the rates can be whatever we manipulate them to be.
