Campground Cleaning

Since we will be doing our first time RV trip soon, I was just wondering what has been your experience with any special cleaning done by campgrounds during the times of COVID? Do you feel safe using their showers and restrooms? Thanks!

I assume you use soap and water when you shower. If it is good enough for your hands, it probably works for the rest of your body. I don't see how any public facility could sanitize to a level that is completely free of any potential viruses. They aren't going to go in and sanitize the shower, toilet, urinal or sink every time someone uses one. Some parks have chosen to close those amenities, some probably do either clean more often or are using more disinfectants, while others are probably operating as they always have.
It is generally agreed that the vast majority of virus spread is by aerosol droplets inhaled from long term (10 minutes or more) close contact with infected people. Long term, close contact with others is exactly the polar opposite of what I hope to achieve in a campground restroom.

Using your own facilities would definitely be best.

If using the campground's wear flip flops in the shower; take minimal 'stuff' with you so you don't have to set a lot of things around. Do hair blowing/drying in your RV or outside your RV if you have a plug. Blowing the air around in a closed space wouldn't be good. Shave in your RV. Do a fast in/out and sanitizer after exiting the building.

Toilet? Wear a mask - always. You could even carry a small baggie of Chlorox wipes to wipe door handle & even toilet seat before using & dispose of properly; not flushed. Guess you could use disposable gloves so not touching any surfaces and again, take them off properly so the contaminated part is inside and dispose of them properly.

We've been seeing masks and gloves just tossed on the ground... even when shopping. Hate it!

So much easier if you use your own! Wear gloves at the dump station and at fuel stations.

We have been out a fair amount this summer and more then ever are more then very happy to use our on board bathrooms/shower.

If that’s not an option you may want to call ahead, a couple of the campgrounds we have been two have closed some of their bath houses. I assumed the logic was by reducing the # of open bathrooms they could clean more often, but admittedly didn’t ask as we don’t use.

We haven’t used a campground restroom in years. If your rig is self-contained I recommend you follow the same process. If your rig is not self-contained or you don’t have a sewer hookup, do what twogypsies recommended.

We use our own bathroom and don't worry about the public facilities.

The RV park we are staying at for the summer closed everything that had public access, even the front office. If you are not self contained you can’t stay here. Less staff to worry about but still no discount on rates.

Many parks we have visited in the NE during the last three months have chosen to close their facilities rather than super clean them.
