Close the covid 19 section

Admins, all this section does is cause problems. It needs to be closed for good. Theres enough information available online (good or bad) that irv doesnt need to cover it too.

Nearly every threads locked, why even have it other than to stir the [moderator edit] pot? And this thread can be deleted as soon as a moderator or someone who can actually make it happen sees it

You know, all folks have to do is post within our Community Rules & we gladly leave threads open. You'd think members who agreed to our site Rules when they joined would be respectful enough to abide by them, especially after we post a thread warning. It's not rocket science.

I began writing a response, then deleted it. Coming back, I see the post by NLOVNIT, which was the core of my deleted post.

I haven't accessed that forum for many, many months for the very reason mentioned by the moderator. I don't miss it. If anything, it has to be a burden on the moderators and as such, let's leave it to them to decide to close the sub forum. This thread is a valid request to do so, reflecting some community member's support for such a decision.

Personally, I think the atmosphere in which the sub forum was created has significantly change so the rationale for its origin is now gone. The pandemic, unfortunately, has been politicized, no one can question that. As stated, ample information, on all sides of the politics is available.

What we have now is a sub forum, based on a politicized subject, that is open for discussions in which no politics are allowed.

If the COVID-19 Discussions section is shut down, then Covid-19 posts may wind up in other sections. I would rather the COVID-19 section continue in order to not pollute any of the other sections.

This^^, IMO, is the only valid reason to keep the forum open. It is a good reason. It also allows the mods to focus in only one forum to monitor the potential violations.

Not like you guys dont know its a hot button topic. Theres even an extra disclaimer when making replies. Like i said, its just stirring the pot and theres no need to have it.

That is a fair reason, but i just think this isnt a good place for covid discussion. Theres no reason for members to be fighting over something like this.

We started this section exactly for this purpose and felt our members needed a venue to discuss this. We also have to keep them within our Community Rules and currently do not have any intentions of doing away with it for these same reasons.

If you're going to leave it open, you need to let information from both sides freely flow. When info is posted that goes against the MSM, even if it comes straight from the CDC or NIH websites, the thread is immediately closed. At that point it becomes political advocacy. It's your site, do whatever you want, but don't expect accolades for censoring legitimate information.

If anyone doesn't want to read this thread why do they bother?
Don't click onto it and it'll be like it was never there.

Yep!

Opening posts like these always get me to scratching my head. I would agree with them if a certain thread category was thrown in our faces. Of course it's not here in this forum. There's a single link to the covid section that is easily avoidable.

People that don't want to view it might try this. If on computer, keep mouse pointer away from link. If on phone, skip tapping the link with their finger.
