Coronavirus - Are you changing travel plans?

My wife has told me this is my last trip. She is also reading all the awful end of the world stuff.

So..... Are you changing travel plans?

Are you prepared?

There are many more deadly diseases globally, that have done far more damage to people, since record keeping began. Tuberculosis, influenza, pneumonia, to name a few.

Nope. We're heading to Alamo Lake State Park tomorrow, which is out in the middle of nowhere. I'm more at risk here at home.

About to head out for two weeks on the Florida Gulf Coast with the extended family. All from MN/SD area. It's a sort of yearly thing.

My parents are coming, but now . . . maybe not? My father is 85, and has mild emphysema and COPD. My 55-year-old sister is coming, but now . . . maybe not? She has lupus, and is normally not well.

Now they're in a quandary. Do they get on an airplane and fly down and risk it? It may be the last trip for my parents, but if my dad gets this, it may be . . . dangerous.

And I don't know what to tell them.

In an airport you have no way of knowing where the person next to you has been or who they have been in contact with. Do you feel lucky? Seems like a good time to stick to the RV, give this thing a month or so to see how it goes.

Nope, we are just staying away from big crowds, which we normally do, and not getting on any planes in the near future.

We don't walk, live or drive in fear. And we darn sure don't watch TV that stokes those fears.

We're retired FTers currently in RGV and nope not changing any plans. Heading up to Maine, NH and Vermont for the summer for our second year in a row. We're practicing extra hygiene practices when we go out in public, like to get groceries or explore surrounding areas.

I was planning a spring trip south. I watching to see what the next two or three weeks look like. If they start having outbreaks in the USA, I might reconsider going. If it ended up like China, with areas locked down, I would be stuck down there. Being Canadian, I wouldn't want to have any major health issues out of country. I have medical insurance, but you never know if they have some clause that excludes pandemics. Not cancelling just yet, but watching very closely.

Put everything into perspective. During the regular flu season, there are 30,000-50,000 deaths in the US. Practicing safe hygiene and limiting hand to face contact is the best way to prevent any flu virus from entering the body. We can never be "safe", but we can do things to minimize contact with any pathogen.
