It continues because folks respond to a new post (like both of us have now done).
Handling protocol?
Wash your handlings!

My guess is that differences of opinion make many thread discussions ongoing.
Me, I never ger sick from handling wastewater.
I am not fussy about washing up, wearing gloves (never), or using sanitizer all the time.
Cleaning toilets, wastewater lines and dumping has been pretty much a full time issue for me as a liveaboard on boats and RVs for much of my adult life.
I am lucky in that sense, I feel sorry for those that get sick at the drop of anything. For those, whatever protocols one uses is well worth the prevention of feeling like crap.
But if one sees someone like me, ignoring every sanitation protocol ever printed...please don't feel sorry as I am both fully aware/educated on the subject, but chose my path that works just fine for me.

COVID has infected nearly everyone at least once already. Plenty of other things to worry about. Or not worry at all. No one has ever successfully stopped a virus. Even the flu kills tens of thousands each year in the US even with a vaccine. It's killed far more than COVID.

At the risk of topic swerve... 1 in 308 Americans died of Covid 19. I don't think the percentage is nearly as high for the common influenza, but I'm willing to learn. Got a link from a verifiable source?

Roughly 1.04 million U.S. citizens are listed as dead from covid-19. Take the current population (well, last census anyway) and divide by that 1,04 million figure and voilà.
I won't post links as it'll turn into some sort of pissing match and conspiracy thread yet again. Do your own research, it's at your fingertips.

Well, have you looked up measles, polio and smallpox, just to name a few?

Thread Reminder
This thread is about the potential of catching covid from sewage waste, not about how many have caught it.
Please stay on topic.

I always wear a mask and gloves when dumping, who knows what "fumes"may emanate from dumping waste. My own "stuff" is bad enough! And I use hand sanitizer afterward. Disposable gloves

I take precautions when dumping because sewer systems have nasty things.
I have noticed a differnce camping between this summer and last, people have stopped taking precautions.
For example, when visiting family I quartined if I could have been exposed. At one of the cousins house, Saturday is game night. Another cousin was sick on Tuesday but came anyway. I did not go because my next stop was grandkids.
Two got sick with covid.
Back on the home front, grandaughter comes home first week of school with a fever. Mom, dad, little sis all gets colds. Mom is high risk, back to ER.
The world is full of nasty things, some old and some new. So take precuations that are right for you.

At any rate, I have heard of zero reports of catching covid-19 via sewer waste, although anything is possible. I just use normal precautions and keep my mouth shut when I do the dirty job. I got splashback in my face when rinsing the other day. I didn't expect that much pressure from the rinse hose.
They DO use sewage water to effectively test for covid-19 spread in the population. It doesn't mean the virus is then active.
