Yup--and many of us will keep going to Costco and Walmart and where ever else for the cheapest prices......we all have a role to play in what is happening--do your homework and "choose wisely grasshopper"...….

Even though they pay taxes, employ local factory workers, buy livestock from local farmers along with using local truck drivers? I'm sure a lot of american's depend on Smithfield for a paycheck. It doesn't make sense to bite the hand that feeds you or your neighbor, just because the company is foreign owned.

So (in your opinion) if I am not buying Smithfield products I am not supporting Americans. I am still buying meat that is still processed in the US. Besides (IMHO) Smithfield products are inferior to other meat products and it is why I do not buy meat from Walmart. Walmart wants to be cheaper than everyone else and this is why they have Smithfield products. I do a lot of smoking and I prefer a better grade of meat.
Also I have read that a big percentage of meat processed (especially pork) at Smithfield plants are sent to China.

Well bottom line is that your protein will never be cheaper than before CV
Urban sprawl across the world has led to the need for mega meat production
Back in the day of local meat markets and butcher shops never an issue
How did JBS become the world's largest packer in a few years?
So how many of eat their products? Most of you since you didn't know that the Brazilians owned them
Many reasons and few good ones for the conglomerate
So what is next? Pay more certainly but do you want to pay enough for 100% American owned
I do and will

Im thinking Honda Manufacturing company
In Ohio and Hundreds of satilite sites to feed the site. Employing you or your neighbor all over Ohio.
Then Toyota Company Georgetown Kentucky and all the satilite support sites. ???
Most dont appear to be bothered driving a Toyota, kia, Honda and supporting these companies and dealership's.
In All reality, Smithfield was for sale, Any substantial American Family or American could have purchased this company.
They chose not to Invest in this company and Keep it an American owned company.
Our loss.
And the ( Hate for big American Corporations )
That could have purchased Smithfield is rampant on this and other forums.
But by golly, when your Wife, brother or children get a job at Honda, Toyota, Kia Smithfield your proud as punch [emoji6]

I agree also. After what China pulled when this virus started we need to get as much as we can away from their products.
As to the meat packing plants being hit hard I am not surprised. My wife worked for a small one years ago and the working conditions are terrible. They are shoulder to shoulder doing their work. Plus they are nasty as hell. There are ways to make it less of a risk.

Getting thousands of small butcher shops back in operation is the only logical solution
They will be close to the animal protection and locally owned and operated
Worked for hundreds years and will again
Solves a huge amount of problems

That's just not practical anymore, there is a reason the local butcher shops disappeared. Competition still rules!

Exactly right on cost
Cost is what Made In China is everywhere
Won't work unless we're willing to pay more
Also willing to allow foreign meat and owners
All what you're willing to accept
Cottage industries are making a bit of a comeback in many areas
