I had a friend post his release documents from the hospital. It explicitly stated not to wear a mask. And the dates on the forms were from May 2020. I'm no longer on Facebook, so I cannot repost the government mage here. This was after he tested clear of the virus after being exposed at work, and two weeks self isolation.

So? What does that have to do with the rest of us?

The Rose parade was officially canceled today. I am sure much of the new year celebrations, games, and about everything will follow.

Fantasy Fest in Key West has been cancelled also. They want to close off the road into the Keys again but cannot come up with the money to set up and man the barricades.

Key West

Your information re closing US1 into the Keys is incorrect, Kahoona.

As of 7/17, 78% of the total available hospital beds in Lower Keys Medical Center were full. The decision to close the Keys will be based on our ability to care for our community. If demand exceeds capacity, the BOCC will look at closing down. Itís not about money, itís about safety.

There are over 700 confirmed cases in the Keys currently, with about half in Kew West. Masks are required anywhere you go in the city, indoors or out. They are also required to enter any business county-wide. Persons can be fined for not wearing them, except when seated at a restaurant table to eat.

Persons who want to stay abreast of conditions in the Keys can easily do so by subscribing to KeysWeekly.com.

Please, if you visit my island home, respect all local laws and customs and have a wonderful visit!

NM closed for 3 months and counting.

https://wwwapps.emnrd.state.nm.us/SPD/ParksReportingPublicDisplay/Announcement

Hereís a list for the NM state parks. Many parks are open for day use only. Us full-timers are still scrambling for dispersed camping places as all over night camping on the state/federal/ACOE/BLM and whatnot are still closed. Some dispersed camping is being further restricted as so many of us full-timers are crowding those places with nowhere else to go.

Also the state of NM had mandatory mask wearing, no excuses or exceptions. $100 fine if caught without one.

My home is Big Pine Key. We Pinersmay be the last of the real keys left. I am certain that about a month ago Rick gave a statement that he would like to close US1 again but there was not enough money in the budget.

I prefer the News Barometer and the Blue Pages myself. They are not a vehicle for the real estate market. Which Key?

I won't see Rick until October but I'll ask him then. Bye.

Iím on Cudjoe. Not home right now though; we left when they lifted the first closure. No desire to mix with the Miami weekend warriors. I have to agree with you that BPK may well be all thatís left of the real Keys. I also read both of the publications you mentioned. I referenced the weekly because I think it targets visitors more than locals.

There was a lengthy discussion about closing US1 at the June 17th BOCC meeting which I ďattendedĒ via Zoom. Rick probably made that statement at that meeting. Bob Eadie had the hospital reps lay out the stats and what they would do in the event that demand exceeds capacity. At the time of the meeting, the temporary Fishermanís unit was full but LKMC was at about half capacity. There are limits to the additional personnel that can be sent from other areas of the state to assist if our hospital beds actually do reach 100%. They are not using TraumaStar to transport Covid patients to the mainland so I guess that saves some $$, but yes, there were concerns expressed by Heather and a couple of the other Board members about the cost of closing the road again. In the end the general consensus was that if we canít address the health needs of the community then we will have no choice but to close. In all actuality I donít think they will really do it. In fact, if thatís the bar then I hope they donít have to.

Yes, Rickís budget is pretty tapped right now but hey, Roman found the money before, didnít he?

Safe travels~

Denise

California closed parks

San Luis Obispo county parks are closed: https://reservations.slocountyparks.com/

State Parks in our county are closed. See Reserve California. https://reservecalifornia.com/Califo...vailabity.aspx

I cannot speak for all California State Parks but in my county, they are closed. It is a safe bet anywhere that is currently in the "Stay at home orders" part of California (most all of it) will have closed camping.

We are in a world of hurt from Covid hospitalizations in California and please abide by the rules. We can beat this thing!

There are many different face coverings out there. Some work better than others. An N95 mask will filter out 95% of particulates, including covid virus. But if you wear an N100 mask properly you can protect yourself from 99.97%. With such a mask you can walk into a covid ward and be completely safe. A face shield will further protect your eyes. If that's not enough you can get a cheap tyvek disposable hazmat suit with a sealed full face respirstor. These protections have been used for decades in the industrial, biological and nuclear industries with proven results.

Masks only work until its safe to take them off and you itch your nose.

Think about it, do you come out if the store, remove your mask, and go about your loading the groceries ?

Did you sanitize your hands right after removing your mask ?

Do you touch your face or brush back your hair while driving ?

Unlike the very beginning of this, they now say that it's far more airborn than being something you get from touching surfaces. In the beginning you couldn't even get a mask, and they were focused on washing your hands and not touching anything.

I've been getting 3-ply surgical masks that are medical grade, and I can tell that they're much better at filtering out particles. But any 3-ply mask I think is going to give you some degree of protection, and most of all it will help contain your particles if you are infected and breathing/talking in an indoor place.

My main focus is just to wear a mask when I'm in a store, and not to linger in any one place around anybody for any period of time. And I do avoid touching my face, and as soon as I get out to my vehicle I use alcohol to clean my hands.
