I feel overall the statistics need to be taken with a grain of salt, or maybe a whole salt lick. I often read the news release text from my state's health department COVID information, not just the raw numbers when it comes to increases in total cases being reported. For example yesterday there was a big jump in reported cases state wide, but if you read the fine print you will find that this was influenced by a big data dump from one lab, which included results for tests going back to May 15th.
This of course means there were more cases out there than were reported over the last 2 months, but may also falsely imply a spike yesterday. This sort of thing unfortunately is not a rare occurrence, and seems to happen about once per week.

p.s. on a bit of possibly good news, my wife was exposed at work 14 days ago, and developed a bit of a cough, she went to get tested last Wednesday, and just got the negative test results back a few hours ago. Sure it may be a false negative, ....
