Quarantined at the border

Friends left the RGV last week. They had no problems traveling to their home in Alaska, until reaching the Canadian Border. There they were placed in a 14 day quarantine.

Beware, travel safe.

I just read that the USA and Canada both agreed to extend the border closure until late June except for essential goods. Not sure if going home to Alaska counts??

Interesting question, if someone knows please post it here. Maybe if they were willing to quarantine in Canada for 14 days, but how would they enforce it?

So as soon as they crossed from the lower 48 into Canada they had to stay 14 days? How did they find a place to stay near the border so fast? Did they have paper work from the first RV park to let other stops before getting to Alaska know that they had been quarantined?

That's a very good question re: quarentining. Here in Texas, they were quarentining all who were entering the state from Louisiana for 14 days. Dunno if that applied to Texans who were driving home from Florida and just passing through or what. Dunno how the Texas quarentine was enforced. And no one has yet explained about the Canada-Alaska situation either.

Tommar, our daughter lives outside of Houston and their neighbors had to make an emergency family trip to Louisiana for a few days. On reentering Texas, they were screened, license and address information taken and told they had to self quarantine back in Houston for 14 days. They were subject to random checks by the state to see if they were self quarantined.

I don't have those answers. Their phone is going to voicemail. No reply to my email

Did the have an Rv to stay in? I wonder if they have to do it again when entering Alaska. Makes for a long trip.
At least Canada has good beer.

A different RVing forum has a post explaining the current travel restrictions for Americans traveling to Alaska.

I seem to remember the post said in effect, travelers must virtually drive straight-through from the South Canadian border to the Alaskan border.https://www.homernews.com/news/alask...hrough-canada/
Here are the current Alaska recommendations:https://dot.alaska.gov/amhs/doc/serv...d19_032020.pdf

The OP does not sound right at all.

Good friends, whose primary residence is in Alaska, just completed their trip home through Canada last week. Bottom line, they were told not to delay the Canadian transit. Stop for fuel, be self contained, keep interaction with others in Canada to bare necessary minimums. CGs were open. Yukon wanted them through in 24 hours.

No quarantine till they got home where they have a home quarantine.

Really no big issues at all.

This is what we experienced when arriving back in Canada on April 14th.

Our difference was we had a destination in Canada to go to. We where told to have no contact with others for 14 days, but could stop for fuel as long as it was pay at the pump. We could use a drive thru, not likely in a class A .

We had made arrangements to have food delivered to our location and left outside as we watched till, the delivery friend got back in their vehicle to leave. Paid by interac e transfer.

They took our cell phone number and pinged it to make sure we stayed at the location we gave them.

Did see the local by-law Guy drive by a couple of times.

Had a bunch of small items to do on MH, when does that ever end? , got them done and all is great.

As was previously mentioned you should, would be told , to head directly to your destination keeping human contact to an absolute minimum.

Safe travels,

Terry & Pat
