Recreation.gov unilateral cancellation

Yesterday I received an email from recreation.gov informing that my May 25 to June 9 reservation at a Corps of Engineers campground in Missouri was cancelled. The reason was the campground would not open until June 1 due to the coronavirus issue. I wonder who made the decision to unilaterally cancel all reservations that start before the end of May rather than allow the option of the customer keeping the remaining days starting June 1? Maybe it was just easier for recreation.gov.

Luckily I jumped on the computer and salvaged those days but someone else might have beat me to it.

I doubt the site has the capacity to look at each reservation and cancel only the portion of a reservation that is affected by their closure. The govt is not in the position to make money like a private CG, who would likely call you and discuss a more favorable outcome.

They sent an email to everyone they were cancelling. How difficult would it have been to first send one informing us of what would happen and, at the very least, give us the opportunity to cancel the days affected?

Probably not difficult at all if the software was designed for that. Again I doubt a human is involved with the reservation system.

Actually, a human had to be involved in this process. They just took the easy way out.
