Sorrento Therapeutics claims find of 100% effective antibody

https://www.foxnews.com/science/covi...y-breakthrough

EXCLUSIVE — A California-based biopharmaceutical company claims to have discovered an antibody that could shield the human body from the coronavirus and flush it out of a person’s system within four days, Fox News has exclusively learned.

Later Friday, Sorrento Therapeutics will announce their discovery of the STI-1499 antibody, which the San Diego company said can provide "100% inhibition" of COVID-19, adding that a treatment could be available months before a vaccine hits the market.

"We want to emphasize there is a cure. There is a solution that works 100 percent," Dr. Henry Ji, founder and CEO of Sorrento Therapeutics, told Fox News. "If we have the neutralizing antibody in your body, you don't need the social distancing. You can open up a society without fear."

Their stock has doubled already and is approaching $6. Reuters reports they rejected a near-billion dollar takeover offer in January.

You would think the mainstream media would be all over this but instead they are ignoring it.

Neutralizing Antibodies are the main hope for a quick treatment. So if this is correct then it's very good news. The big question is this: how long do the antibodies last after the injection?

And now I think of it, I did not see in that press release the fact that these have to be administered by injection.

These same sort of neutralizing antibodies worked with Ebola.

If it’s on Faux “news”, it’s gotta be true.

The rest of the media missed the opportunity to buy up shares, so they’re not interested in sharing the story...

As for something that magically wipes the disease out of one’s system, where are the antibodies for Zika virus, polio etc etc?.

I’m not from Missouri, but I love their state motto.

In other words, the JAMA says "there is no evidence this will work."

Remember that Fox was the pimp for anti-malarial drugs that ended up being either ineffective or worse, detrimental to the coronary functioning of patients, including death in some cases.

I'd take anything promoted on Fox as being speculative at best.

That the only place you're hearing about this is on Fox should be telling. This looks more like an attempt by Dr Ji to prop up the value of Sorrento.

If this genuinely worked you'd be seeing China stealing it and then touting "we invented it first, wanna buy some?"

I used to subscribe to JAMA when I worked in the medical field. The AMA was the organization that conspired against chiropractors because their existence meant less income for M.D.'s. "Follow the money" also applies to any high-income group and a healthy dose of skepticism should always be maintained regardless of the source. https://www.nytimes.com/1987/08/29/u...opractors.html

That JAMA article also is from a few days before this announcement.

A pump-n-dump by a public company will get them destroyed rapidly, particularly when there literally are millions of people working on this problem.

So I'm hopeful that this is a valid avenue even if this one in particular fails.

And remember, if the source was CNN instead of Fox, the source would be getting bashed by a different group of people.

Let's please keep personal politics and leanings out of this thread or it, too, will get shut down. As it should.

The Fairness Doctrine was eliminated in 1987.
Since then it's been downhill.

The Sorrento preclinical study has yet to be peer reviewed. The initial results look promising, but should not be taken as gospel. There have not been any clinical trials as of yet. At this point it’s only been experiments in a lab.
As people are so desperate for good news, I suspect most of the mainstream networks will be joining Fox on reporting this. They all have a tendency to misrepresent a study like this as fact. They will probably throw the word preliminary in there once to cover their derričres.

IMO, it doesn’t matter whether networks lean a little left or right. What everyone should be concerned with is the accuracy of their reporting and are if there are important stories which are not being covering on their network of choice. If you follow multiple news sources, it’s not that hard to see which networks do this.
If you Google “Media accuracy chart”, you will find some interesting comparisons on how the various networks compare in terms of accuracy, as well as how far they stray from center.
