Why isn’t there similar outrage about rights being taken away when people are required to wear shirts and shoes in establishments?

What should be a health issue has sadly been turned into a political one, which really isn’t very sensible when you get down to it.

Businesses have the right to set rules for their customers - think fancy restaurants having dress codes.

The hair stylist lost her ability to make a living for breaking what? Not a law. Laws are passed by elected officials after due process.

I agree this is way too political. Hopefully after 11/3 that will change some.

But part of the point is wear the mask, social distance, wash hands, so we don't have to close the economy.
As a note Northern Idaho had one of the lowest infection rates back 2 months ago when the businesses we closed down The largest hospital had one patient in icu. Since they reopened and have a voluntary mask rule and a large portion of the population does Not wear it. We now have moved back in to Phase 3 from 4 and the hospital has on bed in ICU. Maybe if more people wore masks people wouldn't be losing income again. What is also worrisome is who do you think is going to have to bail out the hospitals in the next 6- to a year. If we don’t do something to get the economy back to healthy soon, the infection numbers won’t matter. We'll be in a full scale economic depression.

And we all know the accuracy of the infection numbers is seriously flawed. I know people in Florida who signed up for a drive thru test but left in frustration after waiting over an hour. The next week they all got notices that they had tested positive. I also knew someone who died in a car accident and was listed as a virus death.

The media has used this to boost ratings and hyped any incident into a major ordeal. The reality is that yes people are dying. The vast majority are in nursing homes or in very poor health.

Every death is a tragedy and I feel for the family. BUT! In Arizona only 8/10 of 1% of our citizens have supposedly died from this virus. That means that my chances of living are 99.2% if all you are considering is the published numbers. I like those odds!

We need to get people back to work and find a new normal way of living.

The narrative put forward by politicians and the media is focused on today and up to a couple of months out. That is on purpose, there is always a finite time. The harsh reality is that there is no cure and no vaccine, people will continue to get infected and unfortunately some of them will die until some form of community immunity (to avoid the politically charged term herd immunity) is reached. Lockdowns, masks, social distancing merely slow down the spread, meaning it will take longer to reach community immunity. Claiming that a certain measure will save x amount of lives until a certain date is factually correct but omits that many more lives will be lost after that date.
Anders Tegnell (in)famously said "judge me in a year" but we didn't have to wait that long. Today Sweden's death per capita is lower than the US and a number of countries with stringent lockdowns.
It's basically "pick your poison".
