I am currently travelling through Utah, and find that there is no statewide mask requirement, and I am seeing much less mask and social distancing occuring here. I drove by a giant rally gathering today, not a mask in sight.
It seems the folks here are less compliant and less concerned than most places I have been lately, with Arizona is taking a close second.

Spent 16 days doing the Mighty Five and arrived in Sedona Sunday afternoon. Wife agrees that 95% of folks are wearing masks, even while hiking.

Many would rather take their chances than live under that kind of government boot. Several family members have contracted it. The worst symptoms for one was the rash, and another still doesn’t have her sense of taste after nearly 10 week. I’m about 99% certain we had it in late January. My wife flew through Atlanta for work. Came back the sickest I’ve ever seen her. I had 3 days of a fierce headache and scratchy throat. All the kids missed a week of school. Sore throats, headaches, high fevers that kept recurring, rashes, and nasty cough. Not flu or strep, or anything else the docs could identify.

Face Masks, Distancing, Wash Hands
Oh the horror of such draconian measures
OCT 15th I was 'scheduled' for surgery which had been postponed/rescheduled from the Oct 5th to Oct 8th to Oct 15th
When I arrived at Hospital for check in I was informed surgery might NOT happen due to State Mandated occupancy rate...emergency room had been hit hard the evening before
Fortunately a few patients were being discharged that afternoon so I was admitted and surgery went well.
What Happened....folks dropped their guard, ignored precautions or figured they wouldn't catch it
ER personnel think otherwise
Come On
It's a simple face mask, don't gather, wash your hands
Sheesh!

Yes I too believe we may have had it in Feb also but it wasn’t even thought of it being here then. In any case, I am feeling if I did have it I was lucky I didn’t spread it to someone who may not have recovered.
I don’t mind following rules for 1. I think if more did it may end and we could carry on with our lives and 2. I certainly don’t want to give it to someone who may get it and not make it

I personally know people who were/are facing financial ruin. Yes they opened their restaurants/family fun centers/entertainment venues back up after no income for months. They feel that taking the risk for a virus with a 99% survivability rate is better than foreclosures, bankruptcy, and financial disasters.

Saw a very interesting news item yesterday. Kansas was one of the many states that initially refused to issue a statewide mandate to wear masks and would not allow local choice in the matter.
About a month ago when COVID started spiking again, the state grudgingly re-evaluated their position and decided to allow local choice. If I remember correctly there are 104 counties in Kansas. About a dozen of those counties immediately issued a mandatory mask order.
A month later the COVID infection rate is skyrocketing with no sign at all of leveling off yet in those 90+ counties. In the counties that did issue the mask mandate, the infection rate is essentially flat.
If that isn't proof positive that masking works, I don't know what is.

And what happens if folks cannot afford those fines?

Some of us have observed how, why rules are made. And how they are enforced.

I don't know about Utah but here in PA any Covid News seems to be bad news and the media broadcasts it loudly and often especially new Covid infection rate numbers. It seems they do not broadcast any good news especially the fact that the death rate from Covid is .0006. There is also much controversy over whether patients died from Covid or some other malady since the high majority of deaths were in nursing facilities and not among "healthy people". There is much positive news to share also.
A professor of pharmacy at U of Toronto sent this clearly worded update to his family.
For this pandemic there’s a greater chance of survival for those getting infected 3 months later, like June 2020, than those who got infected 3 months earlier, say February 2020. The reason for this is that Doctors and scientists know more about COVID-19 now than 3 months ago, and hence are able to treat patients better. I will list *5 important things* that we know now that we didn’t know in February 2020 for your understanding.
1. COVID-19 was initially thought to cause deaths due to pneumonia and so ventilators were thought to be the best way to treat sick patients who couldn’t breathe. Now we are realizing that the virus causes blood clots in the blood vessels of the lungs and other parts of the body and this causes the reduced oxygenation. Now we know that just providing oxygen by ventilators will not help, but we have to prevent and dissolve the micro clots in the lungs. This is why we are using drugs like *Aspirin and Heparin (blood thinners that prevent clotting) as protocol in treatment regimens in June 2020.*
2. Previously patients used to drop dead on the road, or even before reaching a hospital, due to reduced oxygen in their blood - OXYGEN SATURATION. This was because of HAPPY HYPOXIA, where even though the
oxygen saturation was gradually reducing in OVID-19 patients did not have symptoms until it became critically less: like sometimes even 70%. Normally we become breathless if oxygen saturation reduces below
90%. This breathlessness is not triggered in Covid patients and so we were getting the sick patients very late to the hospitals in February 2020. Now since knowing about happy hypoxia we are monitoring oxygen saturation of all Covid patients with a simple home use pulse oximeter and getting them to hospital if their oxygen saturation drops to 93% or less. This gives more time for doctors to correct the oxygen deficiency in the blood and a better survival chance in June 2020.
3. We did not have drugs to fight the corona virus in February 2020. We were only treating the complications caused by it... hypoxia. Hence most patients became severely infected. Now we have 2 important medicines: FAVIPIRAVIR & REMDESIVIR. These ANTIVIRALS can kill the
corona virus. By using these two medicines we can prevent patients from becoming severely infected and therefore cure them BEFORE THEY GO TO HYPOXIA. This knowledge we have in JUNE 2020... not in February 2020.
4. Many Covid-19 patients die not just because of the virus, but also due the patient’s own immune system responding in an exaggerated manner called CYTOKINE STORM. This stormy strong immune response not only kills the virus but also kills the patients. In February 2020, we didn’t know how to prevent it from happening. Now in June 2020 we know
that easily available medicines called Steroids that doctors around the world have been using for almost 80 years can be used to prevent the cytokine storm in some patients.
5. Now we also know that people with hypoxia became better just by making them lie down on their belly - known as proning. Apart from this, a few days ago, Israeli scientists have discovered that a chemical known as ALPHA DEFENSIN, produced by the patient’s
White blood cells, can cause the micro clots in blood vessels of the lungs, and this could possibly be prevented by a drug called COLCHICINE used many decades in the treatment of Gout. So now we know for sure that patients have a better chance at surviving the COVID-19 infection in June 2020 than in February 2020 for sure.
Going forward, there’s nothing to panic about Covid-19 if we remember that a person who gets infected later has a better chance at survival than one who got infected early.
Let’s continue to follow precautions, wear masks and practice social distancing. Please distribute this message, as we all need some positive news...
That's my 2 cents.
