Class A to Super C

I own a Tiffin Allegro Red 33AA. I am looking to buy a Renegade Explorer 40ERB. Before I make the trek to the nearest dealer, has anyone made a similar switch and if so what were the biggest differences you noticed right away? ie. Ride, handling in wind, visibility, noise. I know I wont get a good read with just a short test drive at a dealer. Thanks for any helpful information.

So I have had 4 class A's, and this summer took delivery of an Explorer. I like the big truck chassis very much. Give me a shout on the phone and will discuss with you.

Had a Super C and switched to a Class A.. Couldn't be Happier and would NEVER go back.. Soo much Quieter, Less Heat, More room, Better turning radius, Much smother ride, Better Visibility, Easier to get around in the coach. O, Did i say i would NEVER go back...

Super C includes a range of chassis classes.
There is a BIG difference between a class 8 truck chassis and other smaller truck chassis.
The explorer is built on the Cascadia class 8 chassis and will typically ride better than a smaller chassis.
If you test drive a class 8 with tandem axles there will be another notable change.
When getting feedback from people who have experience with both Class A RV and Super C, also good to know what Super C they drove/drive. I believe this will impact their impression of Super C.

I have never owned a class A, but we rented and drove many one trip over a month in a Newmar Class A DP.

Once I drove the Super C (our first was an Freightliner M2 Chassis) I was sold. I like the way it drives 100% better, no push and feel more connected to the road. Then we upgraded to the class 8 truck chassis (Freightliner Cascadia 126) with tandem axels (that means both axels are driven at the flip of a switch and you can lock them side to side and axel to axel so you have 8 wheel drive if ever needed) I had to use it once in the snow and it worked amazing. Most Class A DP’s are “tag axle” meaning the 2nd axel is just there for weight bearing and not driven.

Anyway, my other takeaways are VERY easy access to the engine for checking things and maintenance. Plus if you ever have to get towed that’s super easy because it’s just a truck and love the convenience of going to any FTL service center for repairs/maintenance. Also, on that note you never have a mechanic going into your master bath/bedroom for repairs and no engine smell in the back of the coach.

From the safety perspective, I like having a big frame, engine and I am adding a X-Guard bumper to my setup for added security as well have Elk and Deer up north in AZ. Never seen a class A with a bumper that could withstand a large animal strike.

The class 8 rigs are awesome machines. They are meant to be driven. Laser straight tracking down the road, no wind push, more towing capacity and power than you will ever need. I did more than 10,000 miles this summer. Never felt exhausted from the day's drive. Its firm but not a harsh ride. Just set the cruise and hang on. Someone mentioned heat and noise, not in a Renegade Class 8 rig. Very high-quality noise and heat insolation. Ease of service, I had a coolant hose leak this summer. Pulled into a Love's truck stop, 20 minutes later, fixed and on my way for $75. Two years ago, needed a windshield, fixed same day, in stock, $250. Try that with a class A. If you get an Explorer, have fun and get out there and drive.

We went from a Tiffin Phaeton 37 to our current Renegade on the M2 chassis. Night and day difference in driving. With the Super C, No road wonder, no wind pushing you all over, no more 'bang, bang' on every expansion joint, overall a very pleasant driving experience. Much like a pickup truck, just a bit bigger.

The class A does have its advantages: For the same overall length, they are bigger inside, have bigger basement storage and will have a slightly better turning radius. I do miss the basement storage in the Tiffin.

For us, the terrible road manners of the class A were a deal breaker. We put lots of miles on every year and I hated being worn out from the white-knuckle experience of driving the class A. I have never understood the comments about class A's being quieter. Ours was so noisy from squeaks, rattles and the constant banging of the coach house around us that we couldn't carry on a conversation. With our Renegade, it's a bit louder than a pickup truck, but not much. We can listen to tunes and have a conversation without yelling. MUCH nicer on the road.
